I could say the same about the DA*300, but that's why I tend to use the DA55-300PLM and DFA 150-450 these days and my DA*300 is collecting dust.
My DA*300 is quick and faster than the 55-300. Really

I would certainly like to see a sensor with better auto focus accuracy; something like Eye AF would be a real help photographing candids.

Is this thread about the Sony IMX571BQR sensor?
It's really the only one in the Sony lists for 26mpix. Although the Q series would be better for astrophotography.

Indeed, this thread is about the Sony IMX571 sensor, already used by Fujifilm for their X-T3 and X-T30 cameras (with an X-Trans colour matrix).

Yes, I believe the thread is about the IMX571BQR sensor (26 MP).

About two years ago Sony did hint at this sensor for their higher end lines of video cameras and it's not unusual to have a three to five years (or more, after certification) leeway in implementation. The term "new tech" is relative.
I get the impression it will also be in the new Sony 7s## camera whenever that comes into reality.

All this should prove interesting as details progress.

I believe the KP currently has best image quality in APSC. If this senso is the one to be used in the new camera, I hope it would be even better than the KP.

Maybe I have a bad copy, but even when brand new it was slow to focus. It also has a high tendency to hunt, and without focus limiting, that is a huge waste of time.

Then it would be a real star with the new sensor, because my 55-300 +1.4X TC certainly is with my KP.

Since there's 3 55-300's, which one are you talking about?
DA, DA HD, or PLM? And which body?
Just so we know the combo

There are actually 4 versions of the DA 55-300.
Three with screw drive - SMC DA L, SMC DA and HD DA WR. All of them have same optical formula.
One with built in motor - HD DA PLM WR RE. New optical formula designed for PLM motor with much faster AF. It also have retractable barrel design for more compact size.

FWIW I have the SMC DA 55-300 (green band) and the PLM. I can certainly vouch for the PLM version having faster AF, which is why I bought it. The only other lens I have with comparable AF speed is the DFA 150-450. I should perhaps bite the bullet and send the DA*300 for servicing since I don't use it anymore. I'd be curious to see if it came back with faster AF.

That means video feature would be vastly improved as well!
I only see positive points about this new apsc, I fear price will be steeper than what we all kindof expect
