There's a plug-in for Lightroom that'll publish straight to your Instagram via Lightroom. It's called LR/Instagram. It'll post photo in the appropriate dimensions, keep the original ratio of the photo, and even puts your watermark if you have one.
My son uses that with watermark for his business advertising.

Well while you good people have been complaining about the Instagram venue some people have been getting into the spirit and posting. I don't see the "100" theme in most of the photos at least there are some photographers out there that don't find Instagram to be "beneath" them. I didn't see any photos that were obviously from US photographers.

If I were Ricoh, I'd create an instagram accound for a Pentax forum group to post on instagram or anywhere else. All the members who do not wish to create an account on instagram could still contribute.
And also for Pentaxians.de, PentaxUser (UK), whatever Spanish and French groups, all of Japan - where do they draw the line?

This is an inspired idea. I’s all about reach and scale. PF has 82,777 UserID’s, +/- 2000 users viewing at a time and a few thousand active posters; maybe 2,000 posts a day. Instagram has a couple billion UserID’s and a three billion posts a day.

And they are very good photos, too. I love them, including the light painting on the bridge, the fantasy horse composite, and the witty '100% cotton tag' showing sometimes simple is better!

You can't think, 'the only decent Pentax photographers post here in PF'. It's not true, have a look at the pics, some will be PF contributors, some won't.

I must have missed something, who has mentioned that Instagram is beneath them? I've never subscribed to Twitter, Facebook nor Instagram and never will. I don't consider them beneath me but they just aren't something that interests me. I have enough commitment to Flickr and several forums including PF to keep me more than busy with time waster activities. Mind you PF is probably the most useful forum I am a subscriber to but keeping up with all of them does get a bit time consuming.

So all you hashtaggers have at it.

You folks are hilarious. Feel free to ignore if you don't want to play along.

The last thing I want Pentax to waste their limited resources on is a web platform to compete with existing giants (Instagram etc.)

As for Instagram, I don't "waste" a single moment on it. I have an account, and I use it to post a handful of my favourite images (all of which are either Pentax DSLR or film-based). I treat Instagram like a free gallery service that lets people around the world easily find my work -- compared to my web-based gallery which is such a quiet corner of the internet that it may as well not exist. Every time someone "likes" one of my images, I check out what they have posted themselves. With few exceptions, I see excellent work that nourishes my artistic interests. I've spent a total of a few hours over the last few years on Instagram. It has been a worthwhile exchange for whatever lost "privacy" I have given up to use it.

I am well aware of the drawbacks of social media. But don't kid yourself -- your indignation sounds like your great-grand-parent's complaints about how "I don't want a newfangled telephone in my house! How dare they have a telephone-based contest! What's wrong with writing a letter?! Kids these days have terrible penmanship!" All of these points may be valid. There are benefits to staying "off the grid." But it starts to sound like wanton anachronism to everybody else.

I actually like this Ricoh-owned web platform idea.
They only have to develop it, start it, market it heavily on all major continents, gradually gather a sizable number of users - and not only Pentaxians!. And they have to get it done in 1-2 months.
Much better than using that pesky Instagram!

Now, seriously, isn't the appeal of a large viewer base obvious? This is marketing, not a private party!

Yep, same for me. I'm not going to open an Instagram account just for that. "Social media" is a thing of the past.

Not around here, it isn't - but our older daughter, who is a librarian, did some research at one time, and found that FB keeps all kinds of information that is none of their business {name of the computer that posts there, for example}, so I am very leery of posting at Instagram. They are very close to doing the sorts of things that are normally called "hacking".

many website collect data not only about your device, but also those linked to it - something you can't even switch off.
