Consider this though: how many Canadians have gone bankrupt and lost their homes because of a catastrophic illness? That just happened to a friend of mine, and I think it is, dare I say, uncivilized.

Ok. Just so I'm sure I've understood what you are saying here:

You have a source that tells you to expect that Pentax will release a Full Frame camera called the "KX" before Christmas 2008?

So....

Pentax made the stratigic move to keep this hushed up during the largest Photoshow there is? A photoshow that is only 3 months before Christmas? You don't think photokina was the time and place to unveil the "KX" or "K-x" or "KXD", or is it the K2D?

I think you need to put the cool-aid down and let the rumor mill chill out a bit.

The big event for Christmas is the K-m.

If the price of the K20D is dropping it is to place it against the new D90, and the new 50D. The competition has new products, so now Pentax needs to move on price.

Just to clarify; nobody used the term full frame in regards to the upcoming body. I simply meant that i, personaly, will be spending the money i had saved for DA* lenses on the new body, and using my full frame primes on it until i can afford the DA* glass to make the most of it's sensor, which will be 18mp if pentax keeps up with thier habit for 4mp increases. It might seem like a little much, but the k20's *still* very competitive pixel-wise, even compared the the d90 and 50d, and since its release about a year ago we've seen the pixel counts jump substancially.

The christmas body is more or less guaranteed to be the APS-C K30D. the 'KX' i mentioned is educated speculation.

Pre-Christmas release

I think that the K-m **IS** the pre-christmas release. It was announced last month to be delivered in November. That is just in time for Christmas.

Unless Pentax has actually been making K30D's (or whatever the name might be), rather than K-m's, and thus have warehouses full of the new cameras, it seems to me that there is absolutely no way that they could announce a K30D now and deliver them by Christmas, unless, as I said, they have really been making those and not the K-m.

If that's the case, why in the world would the announce the K-m/K2000 first?

IMHO, the only way that Pentax could release two brand new bodies within a month of each other is if they were virtually identical, like the K100/K110.

If they have another camera that close to being ready to go, why not announce BOTH of them at PhotoKina, where it would generate much more buzz and press coverage?

It also wouldn't make sense to me, in terms of Pentax' market share. They need an entry-level camera far more than they need a high-end model, at least in the short term. They need an affordable camera to bring in new DSLR buyers and to generate revenue to finance a high-end camera. At the high-end, they would face much stiffer competition from Canon & Nikon.

But hey, I have no "reliable sources" that tell me what is going to happen, so what do I know?

yeah, but the pictures you've taken in those months are potentially "priceless".

I personally went all out (and lucked out with the price drop) by ordering the K20D along with the DA* 16-50 to complement the DA* 50-135 and the FA 50 1.4.

CHRISTMAS JUST CAME EARLY but I'm done.

Also, I'm not sure if the warranty is valid w/ ebay. I bought a Fuji camera a long time ago in the akihabara electronics market and while it had an english instruction manual and was brand new, it also had a sticker that said: warranty not valid.

No, unless it requires a hospital visit. Most or at least more and more companies are offering drug and dental plans to their employees.

Like you and I both said, in taxes and higher costs of goods eg. Beer. I pay 13% tax where I live and about 31% income tax. That works out to be A LOT of camera equipment when you think about it.

Usually because of short wait lists and specialists. If you have the money and want to go elsewhere you can.

This is to make it compare with the D90 when shoppers are in the store. Once again, marketing seems late to me.

Still don't see any sign of price drop here in Singapore for K20D It was about $1250USD several months ago, and it is still about $1200USD right now (due to weaker SGD against USD) ...

This implies a full frame camera. Otherwise why make a direct referance to FF lenses, while avoiding APS-C lenses.

And I think this is yet another, "don't have the facts, but lets stir the crowd" type of posts.
The only one stirring the crowd is you.

Why do people buy cars worth $1million dollars when they can buy one for $15K?

This argument is old/tired. The US has 10 times the population and way more resources. The only reason Canadian's come to the states for treatment is for procedures that are very costly. In Canada people are on wait lists for those procedures because EVERYONE who needs it is entitled to it. In the US if you can't afford it - you don't get it and suffer, therefore much smaller wait lists (if any). Those with money to afford it will cross the border to alleviate waiting periods.

Everyone is entitled. Some are just more entitled that others. It just proves once again that there is no perfect system. At least here if you have the money or insurance you can get the care. If I am on a wait list in a socialist country and I die first what good did it do me? But it is a way to keep costs down. In most socialist countries though even if you can afford it you can't get it until it's your turn. I still rather have the choice. And I do pay for my own insurance for me and the wife.
I'll still take the U.S. over any other country.
Mmm in my country no such problems. Everybody has a an insurance but it costs like 15/month or even less. It covers quite much of every day expenses health related.
Going to the doctor will costs, say 30 if that ones decides so (some do follow strict costs practices and will ask what you get back + 1-3), but I will get 15 back.

For the sake of simplicity let's say half of our expenses are paid back. For 15/month really, I wouldn't want to be in either the US or communist (I still think calling those countries 'socialist' is a bas idea but that's just me) system.

You're still paying for it in higher VAT or whatever your country uses. The Canadian and US dolar are on par yet it still costs more in Canada. WHy? Because you have to pay for the socialized medicine.

And actually what we call a communist society is actually more of a dictatorship. The true communist sociaty only exists in ants and bees. Where all work for one goal. And a communist society is theory a perfect society except for one thing. Human emotions including greed and pride. Ants and bees don't have that problem. If the U.S. is so bad how come people die trying to get here?
