Interesting how much more appealing a lens can seem with different makeup. Perhaps even the da 14 can start to make look like a lens to own.

Since I already own (for less than a month !) a SMC DA 10-17, I won't upgrade for HD coatings and removable hood (too minimal). Still, this lens is a must-have. Do not dismiss this lens because of the well known fisheye effect (which gets old quickly enough), because this is only one possible usage of this lens. You can control the amount of distortion with the zoom ring (17mm is minimal, and it has the angle of view of a rectilinear 10mm), the way you handle the lens (tilted in any direction) and the way you place your subjects. 180 ° field of view is wonderful (and you can reduce it with the zoom ring). You can even do proxi photo with it (0.39x magnification), even if you have to be very close of your subject for that usage.

The one who sold me this lens said it was his main lens. Something I would not have believed before seeing his portfolio, and trying it myself.

What would be good to have in the newer revision is a better diaphragm. Bokeh is the weak point of this lens with its 6 blades.

Yeh its a non issue for bigger lenses. I had no trouble with rotating focusing ring on my Tamron 17-50mm.
But for the small lenses like da35/50 and da ltds.
makes it impossible to hold my camera comfortably.
I think the issue is that you are using a camera that is too small for you. Upgrading your K-S1 to something like a K3 or a KP might make a big difference in your comfort.

Truthfully, the DA 10-17 combined with a K-S1 should be able to be handled with just one hand pretty easily.

Oh, I hadn't even thought about that... Yeah, everything I said was applicable to a K-7, which is pretty damn chunky compared to the KS-1...

It quickly become one of my most used lens as well. I pair it with DA21.

I wish they made it WR and 7 blades. SOoooo no upgrad for me then. It's too minor. If it does starburst like 21 or 15, I would upgrade even wihout WR.

On another thought, Should I expect such minor change coming for FA limited.

That would solve the problem for most but its a no go for me.
So i either suck it up for now and see if something changes in my favor or jump brands.

I assume, then, that it's not a problem of cost (if you consider changing system completely). May I ask why?

There are two more pictures of the HD Pentax-DA Fish-Eye 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 ED, courtesy of Nokishita Camera. OoKU already posted one, here is the second one.

Nokishita Camera also indicate the availability date of the lens (26 July 2019) together with the price proposed by some retailers (i.e. not the RRP but a discounted price including the 8% Japanese VAT): ¥67,500 (around $575).

Am I reading the wrong price?!!! or should I expect more than just HD coding and Skin change?

If it makes you feel any better, the K-7 platform (so a K-3 would be the same) is really not that heavy-feeling (the body is around 200 g more than the K-S1). The K-70 would already be a better form factor as well.

It DOES look chunkier than the SMC, now that I think about it... maybe they increased the size of the image circle?
