Ricoh Theta in space!

We're talking about a 360 degrees camera - based on the Theta - designed in collaboration with JAXA (Japan's space agency), designed to take spherical pictures outside a spacecraft.
The cooperation between Ricoh and JAXA started in 2018.

Very cool story; thanks for sharing! For others who are linguistically-challenged like me, here's the Google translate version of the first link:

Many thanks for this information. Their Theta looks bullet proof ;-)
Anyway, the most fragile parts are probably the protruding lenses.

I'm just waiting for someone at NASA to join PentaxForums and introduce themselves...

... and then post two years from now asking why Ricoh hasn't released anything new in the space camera arena for so long

Or he just will start complaining why that new Theta isn't widely available for purchase when he is walking around in space.....

Ricoh fired the Z1 market launcher rocket, but someone keyed-in the wrong coordinates in the gyro computer UI. Instead of flying ballistic for a landing at B&H Adorama land, the rocket went straight up, crossing the atmosphere and ended up geostationary orbit. Now we need someone to go bring it back on earth.

It would be cool to see a 360 degree video stream from outside the ISS! Thanks for posting, I didn't know about this. Maybe they should send a "normal" Theta as well, so the crew can use it inside?

An interesting article, including a 360° video, from Digital Photography Review:

Ricoh shares 360º photos, videos from space captured in partnership with JAXA | Digital Photography Review

The video itself (best viewed in Chrome or Firefox browsers as they support 360° video)

That's a pretty impressive video. Firefox works quite well in allowing seeing all angles being captured. I'm warming up to this Theta thing.

Great stuff, if they choose the Theta over the other big name, Ricoh have done a great job with Theta
