True. There is a gap with what Pentax offers. The reason I bought the 10-20 was the Pentax 12-24 was more expensive plus, it wasn't weather sealed. Same as Sigma.

I really feel sad to see Sigma finally stating they're leaving the k-mount though I was already expecting it. Too little sales I guess that it only leads to losses. Pentax really needs to market the brand.

So many knockers of Sigma for Pentax lenses, I'm shocked.
I have too many lenses: Takumars, SP Adaptalls, some Pentax K, but most commonly when setting out I have a Sigma lens mounted. When using the K5iis, it's a Sigma 10-20 or 17-50 or 70-200 or 18-200 contemp or the Bigma. Since getting the K1 mark ii, the Sigma 105 EX DG has shown the AF works better and the lens is sharp from f2.8. I never used it wide open with apsc. Same for Sigma DF 28-70. It always seemed a little soft. On the K1ii its sharp at f2.8. So the the revelation has been the FF Pentax. The only AF Pentax lenses i've had have been kit lenses. Useable but not fabulous.

Saw the announcement on DPreview...

Sigma? Sigma? Nobody has bought Sigma?

What if Sigma doesn’t think Pentax is dying, but knows something we don’t know yet - like e.g. the next Pentax being an L-mount camera? 🧐

Haha, I’m not a Leica freak, I just like to speculate. One reason for going with the L mount is that they could leave it to Panasonic to make the video bodies (the S1H looks pretty cool to me!) and concentrate on still cameras and lenses.

I don't think Pentax is dying. After giving us the 50, 85, 11-22 and okay a re-introduced 10-17, I think they're still committed to photography. It's just having lesser choices when 3rd party lens companies have abandoned the mount.

Of course.
I don't see any sign of them accelerating their releases (still, they had the GR III, Theta Z1 and the two compacts this year - besides the 1 new Pentax lens and 2 renewed ones) but I don't see any sign of them planning to stop either.
Even the least convincing releases, the HD FA 35mm f/2 and HD DA 10-17mm, means producing new batches and building up stock. Yes, the Pentax story continues.

(The 85 isn't here yet...)

I was not given any 85 mm lens. I could get one from/for any other mount more or less.

When I got the Sigma 10-20mm, I was looking at cost of getting the 10mm FL.

No, it was a list of manufacturers with Pentax "frames",
which I take to mean mount.

So what? They're still offering lenses in Pentax's M42 mount.

M42 is one of Pentax's USP's. Don't overlook it!

You like to contradict people, don't you? The complete quote of @Gopersuel post:

Actually, the list of manufacturers with pentax frames is being reduced.
As soon as they are left, it will be necessary to make a list of manufacturers of lenses with K mount that remain ... Although it will be short.

  1. ZS is the name of the Zeiss lenses in M42 mount, like ZE is for Canon EF mount, ZF/ZF.2 for Nikon F mount, ZK for Pentax K mount and ZM for Leica M mount.
  2. Zeiss discontinued their lenses in M42 mount years ago, you can check.

I have bought multiple Sigma lenses 17-50, 18-35, 150-500, 70-200, 35, 70-300, 50 f 1.4 and a 70 macro. They are all great lenses I have even written the company to plead the case for K mount Sigma lens they do not seem to care about loyal users. When I switched to Pentax from Olympus it was because almost all of the Sigma lenses came in K mount, times change.

Perhaps Sigma counts sales in each mount each year. Even your great purchasing effort cannot make up for the fact that there are only so many of us.
