They lost me 25 years ago when they were 'taping' in the front elements of their 300 F2.8s...

And, by way of logic, K Mount has now officially stopped all Sigma support.

While I don't mourn the loss of their lenses, it IS a bad sign for Pentax, and a wake-up call to get their marketing together.

Hmm...
Canon: 2 DSLRs this year, one not interesting at all, the other not the 7d MkII replacement people were looking for. No DSLR lenses.
Nikon: no DSLR and no DSLR lens this year (won't count pre-announcements).

I have Sigma's 17-50mm EX f2.8, 18-50mm EX f2.8, 10-20mm EX f4-5.6 and 17-70mm f2.8-4 OS and they're all great lenses which do exactly what I want and expect of them. I also have an old 170-500mm APO from the film era which works well for me. It's sad that they've not released any lenses for our beloved K-mount for some years now, but it's a sign of the times. Sigma desires volume and the L-mount alliance has taken their business in a new direction.

I'll continue to use and enjoy my Sigma glass alongside my superb DA Limiteds, DA* 50-135mm f2.8 and DA* 60-250mm f4.

Their role model? Sony, which continued to release A mount products that were already in the pipeline (like the A99 II) but essentially killed the whole platform.

Canon already did that once to their fans with the FD mount but this is new territory for Nikon.

Sigma here feels like Pentax in the respect that they have resources to do one or two things at a time. Their camera projects are going to soak up most of the energy that they want to put towards anything new. Whether those efforts are well received is too soon to know.

I would just say that while there is an official statement on the subject, it is not anything new. As far as I know, the last Sigma lens released in K mount was the 18-35 f1.8 which came out in late 2013 or early 2014. Every time there has been an update, Sigma has not released it in the K mount since then and lenses like the 85mm f1.4 have gone away. You can still find used versions of them and they will still work fine. But I don't think this changes anything for us.

Already, there's the D FA* 50mm f/1.4 - why getting the 50mm 1.4 Art, or the 40mm f/1.4 Art? The upcoming 85mm might tell the same story.

I can imagine that in 1987 (that was a bunch of years before I happened to be born) releasing a fully electromagnetic system would have been nothing short of a show of force. Nowadays, releasing the RF system is...Eh. Cool I guess?

I think Sony nothing did with A mount it was 100% Minolta great camera
They use Minolta idea and drop start eAdventure

The K mount and F mounts have migrated to all-electronic focus and aperture control without problem, so the real reason was for Canon to make more money by introducing a new platform.

So we're seeing that again, now.

It was rumoured that Canon have suspended EF designs for at least twelve months so the company can get behind the R mount.

If their sales continue to plunge as they have, that'll become their strategy - put up the white flag in trying to win new customers, squeeze their existing ones!

I'd be ropeable if I was a loyal Canon owner. (I do own several EF lenses that I buy to shoot on Sony - guess I win with their reduced market value, I can buy more).
