They’ve done a pretty good job of ignoring The K mount sector for awhile. The 150-600 in either flavor or the newer 50-600 would have been well received. Looking back, the18-35 was not well implemented as far as focusing goes, probably the first big hint that not much more effort would be coming..

Lots of reverse engineering needed for that to happen. Wonder how big the market would be or big the end cost would be for a well made one.

The only ones worth implementing would the last ones - the ones that don't have to support "screw drive" - and I believe Ricoh owns them.

You didn't include the 10-20mm lenses.

For a small subset of end users, perhaps. But it wouldn't help Ricoh Imaging.

I imagine Canon rues the day a viable EF autofocus adapter became available for the E-mount platform. Aside from an insignificant few (if any?) new lens sales, all it did was open up a migration path from Canon to Sony... As such, it's of no interest to those who want Canon's success to continue.

The same would be true if a K-AF adapter were to become available for a non-Pentax platform. For selfish reasons, of course I'd love to be able to shoot my K-AF glass in AF mode on my A7 MkII... but putting aside my own desires, I hope for Ricoh's benefit such an adapter never becomes available.

Nor did I include the 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM. Those aren't 'Global Vision' lenses and they are older:
  • 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM (discontinued): February 2005
  • 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM: March 2009
  • 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM: February 2010.

Maybe not, but the only way I was going to purchase the DA* 11-18mm lens was if Adam had given me one. Since he sent it to Larrymc instead, I will continue to use my Sigma 10-20mm. I have to say that is the one lens I missed when I switched from Canon to Pentax, and then I discovered they made it in K-mount also.

'If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will.' (Steve Jobs)

Canon and Nikon were a bit late at cannibalising their DSLRs with mirrorless cameras. Sony took advantage of this. The so-called 'smart adapters' only gave them additional leverage.

I believe the very purpose of the Canon and Nikon MILCs was to "cannibalize themselves" - to stop users from leaving the brand. In that purpose in mind. the so-called 'smart adapters' serve their purpose well if they make staying with the company easier than switching to Sony.

Canon doing a smart adapter for their ef to r mount makes sense. Third party “smart adapters” for ef to other brand mirrorless cameras are I’m sure not what Canon had in mind for their future

sony got it right by being first, that's for sure. all of the smart adapters are 3rd party... and it took a while to get it right. so unless sony owns or helps metabones(or whoever) they benefitted most by being first. (which i think is what you're saying?) it did not take very long for 3rd party to make nikon/canon dslr/milc adapters though, and they probably got it right the first time. now if you buy a sony/nikon/canon milc, you can use any brand dslr lens and have af/ae... except for pentax.
