The D-BG4 was used by K-7 and K-5 cameras.
The D-BG5 was used by K-3 cameras.

If there is any change in the camera body, a new grip will be needed.

If I understood correctly, Pentax hinted that this body would be changed from K-3 bodies, in which case a new battery grip would clearly be called for.

I'd take bets that it won't.
The grip will probably have a joystick too, so yes: no chance it will take the K-3 grip.

I wonder if the new camera will have a new grip but maybe it could also be backwards compatible with the DBG-5? One can hope I guess.

Well, I agree (hence the lol), I can't bet on myself so, all bets are off from me.

Well, there goes any chance of making a few bucks to help buy a new camera.

Pretty certain I'll just be plopping my money on the table regardless of what the final configuration looks like or does

As long as it feels as good in the hand as a K-5 and has image quality as good or better than the KP, I'm in. Well, improved autofocus would also be keen.

When this camera is release it will be, for me, a quandary between APS-C or FF. Not that I actually need FF but just used to the format from growing up on 35mm film cameras.

I am convinced that it will be the best DSLR ever made by Pentax. But I'm not convinced it will have the sales they want.

I think that they already know how many will propably buy it. Flagships are needed, even if they do not sell in huge numbers. Those evolved tech can be used in future models and upgraded still, and that is what matters. Flagships sells lower models too. You see something nice, but decide to buy something cheaper, almost as good

Bottom part looks fairly similar to the K-7/5/3, so unless the WS™ sticker is too thick we might get lucky and it will use it.

Actually this makes a lot of sense, forgot the joystick.

All I want from a new Pentax is something with better auto focus to replace my K3 should ever stop working. Oh and killer dinamic range too.
