I agree, at least for another year or so. The R&D is done, the moulds are made, why not keep them in production if they're still selling?

I think the bigger question is whether the K-70 will see direct replacement. The KP is a much more interesting platform. In any case,
any replacement for the K-70 surely has to take back seat to 645 and FF development.

I think the update of K70 and KP is easy, just integrating part of new features coming from upcoming K flagship

That isn’t likely. The dimensions are sure to be slightly different, and possibly it will have the QuickConnect connector first shown before the KP was released.

Can that be interpreted as having a better performance battery than its predecessor?

K70 is currently the lowest in the APSC line up. It kicks the he'll out of other entry level cameras. All Canon and Nikon entry level cams are no match to it.

If this K-new is as good as the Pentax people are saying it will be (and with all the precedents it very much will be awesome) then I agree that there will be no need for a K-1Sport, like at all. Being able to downscale, compress or do anything to the raw files to reduce computing power would be appreciated by my poor laptop though

In this market I think a 24Mp FF Action Pentax is a stretch. What would it have over a faster APSc body?

There have to be six or eight people who have a cabinet full of legacy manual focus zooms that they want to do 1960s style sport shooting with, just on FF with 15 frames per second.

Also would give them the excuse to release an FA*100-400mm f/2.8 with hyper-fast focusing. Only weighs 8 pounds and costs $3500. Comes with a Smart car to mount it on.

I don't recall that quote but it certainly is short sighted. Imagine someone at GM saying, "Oh, we're surprised anyone wants a roadster
now that we have a sedan".

I guess even Ricoh bought into the 'world is going FF' mantra that has been so pervasive the past couple years.

Currently both GM and Ford are literally saying "I'm stunned anyone would want a car, since we now have SUVs in eight different sizes."

I personally think it would be kind of interesting to have a sports oriented FF camera in Pentax's lineup. They could try to offer a sports camera and a generalist camera like the K-1. I'd envision something like so: for the "K-1III," they'd implement the AF system found in this camera or a more advanced version of it, along with various other improvements and new features, maybe utilizing a 24Mp sensor, while keeping the general profile of the K-1 and possibly label it a "K-1S" or something along those lines and label it as a sports oriented camera. For a a generalist FF camera, they'd keep the K-1 and add generational updates and improvements, keeping it very much a general and landscape camera. For APS-C, the line up could remain much the way it is. The K-3/K-New series would remain the flagship and 'sports' APS-C camera, the KP remaining very much the all around generalist and the K-70 the entry level. All receiving incremental and generational updates. Improvements would filter down the line much like they do now (although hopefully the K-70 successor would receive the AF system that the KP has now).

Anyway, just my thoughts. Pentax doesn't really have very many sporting lenses at the moment so they would need to flesh that out if a sports camera were to come.
