Pentax really buy imx 571 and 455 This is not a secret in the semiconductor industry, it is known around May.

Of course Ricoh did buy sample copies of the latest and greatest Sony sensors. Everybody in the industry did, if only to test them.

Try this link: https://www.sony-semicon.co.jp/products/common/pdf/IMX571BQR_Flyer.pdf

Excerpt from the above: 'it realizes 12-bit digital output for high-speed 4K moving picture by window readout mode.'

I understood 16 bit to be largely meaningless even for MF cameras? For a crop it seems even more overkill?
I think the gains from 14 to 16 are small and maybe only perceivable at low iso. But if you don't need 12 fps then I suppose 7 fps at 16 bit might be desirable for them.

It would be nice to be able to switch between them...

12fps for sports at a lower bit depth then all 16 bits for some pixel-shifted fun...

I repeat my question of several hours ago: What did the KP use?

Do you view that as a hint of what might be used in the K-3ii replacement?
Sony Semiconductor changed its policy in 2019, instead of providing a special customized version of cmos, but providing a unified cmos.
In the past few years, Pentax cameras have used a special customized version of non-public cmos, which is difficult to judge.
only know K-1 use imx094,Imx094 is the last generation public version of cmos provided by Sony before 2019.
KP K70 GR3 cmos never know .maybe one of IMX 210/310/410

I think k-new will use imx571 with great probability. Pentax has already purchased this cmos (without pdaf). Of course, if pentax use 32mp or 42mp, latter two are indeed options that Sony Semiconductor can provide. But I don't think the current 32mp and 42mp output speed is enough to support a sports machine.

So, because of policies of a supplier, the K-3ii replacement is guaranteed to have different sensor than anything used before by Pentax??

It’s not that I’m just talking about the new cmos that started in 2019. The old cmos in the past will still be produced for a while.

It would be highly likely that there will be new sensor. I also little a bit doubt that there will be 16 bit. perhaps 12 and fast readout? Still little doubtfull about this camera going to be a 'sport' camera. That would be first of it's kind so far in pentax land? But a great performance and also improved video would be my quess with 8-10 fps. With wide array of AF points and new af tracking and even more sensitive RGB sensor !

Sony Semiconductor Solutions have always provided and are still providing both OTS (off-the-shelf) sensors, customised sensors based on OTS sensors and customer-specific sensors: he who pays the piper calls the tune.

IIRC the 100MP Hasselblad raw files are around 200 mb each. That would match your calculation.

I think it's less the format but more the resolution. Bit depth is not the color range but the count of shades between highlight and shadow. It allows for smoother gradients. The step from 14 to 16 is less noticeable than 10 to 12.

Haha! But no worries, the camera strap was around my neck, after all!

You're lucky nobody pushed you down - you'd have dragged the camera with you
