Well count me as one guy who prefers the old placement of the AF button

For me, the natural resting place of the thumb is inward, straight over the green button on the K-1.

Absolutely! I agree on that one and it's enough to make the K-3 the better body. However the size and fit of the overall body is nicer on the K-5
Agreed, the K5 just seems to fit my hands better.

That may be a natural resting place - it is for me too... but having the thumb turned inward removes the thumb from the side which can help support the camera by placing the thumb along the edge bracer, no?

At least it’s not a ‘final resting place’.

I haven't tried too many Pentax DSLR bodies, but the K-x feels like a toy in my largish paws while the K-5--even with the attached battery grip--fits my right hand like it was custom-made for me.

My K10 (since sold. ), K5 and K3 have all felt more comfortable with the addition of the add-on grip. So far! Have not felt a need to add one to my K1.

The K1 is a bigger camera, so the battery grip isn't as necessary for those of us with big hands.

I haven't tried the K1, but do agree with the other models battery grip gives some extra real estate for those with bigger hands.

Ricoh may have tried to meet {with the KP} the needs of those who feel that MILC are better 'because they are smaller' - to me, with its smallest grip, it naturally fits the two-handed grip I've been been using since 1969.

I've never actually even seen one in person. Pentax seems to make cameras that look better in real life than, ironically, in a photo.

I never understood that argument. A camera isn't much without a lens. And a mirrorless set up (with a lens) is about the same size as a dslr.
It's not substantially smaller with an attached lens.

All I know about this is what people sometimes claim. Personally, I have tried a Canon M-50 in a big box store, and a Nikon K-7 during Nikon's "tour" a year or so ago; I have no problem with their size or with their EVF, but Pentax is not selling them, I don't want to purchase a new lens collection, and I'm perfectly with the KP I purchased last Black Friday, so I have no plans to purchase one in any case.

and if people have things they need to talk about, that is fine. If they are adding up posts one at a time, they are taking the long way.

All this talk about fitting larger (male) hands leads me to wonder about the opposite: where do the (generally) smaller female hands fit In the discussion? It’s just an impression I have from my limited acquaintance with women photographers, but only one of them has used a larger DSLR (a Canon 5Diii) and she recently moved to one of the new Canon mirrorless bodies. Of course, the weight of the gear may also be a factor, but I do wonder how much influence women’s requirements have on camera design.
