? - I see more differences than similarities within the proviso that they're both Pentax cameras, but it depends what you're looking for, I suppose.

It looks like they are still using the same basic body as the K-7. (no articulating/flippy screen is also testament to that). The sensor is probably there to kill the screen when de viewfinder is used. Will it have new AF? Will it have a new sensor? Will it have the NR chip or a new image processor? No pop up flash but also no sign of Wi-Fi or GPS?
The ergonomics of the body have always bee excellent, so why mess with it? What really matters is the internal architecture. Is this a clear break with the past or just a further extension of the core Sony / SAFOX / SocioNext logic? If it is the same old same old what took so long?

Not only the excellent ergonomics, but also the distinctive looks. They can't keep changing those.
Underneath, the chassis might be very different; the innards surely will be.

I dislike articulaton - one of the reasons I got KP instead of K-70. KP hides screen behind body so I can be more discrete in my photography.
Yeah but you can't hide around corners and take photos. It is useful in war zones.

If you don't go through the link in the first post how do you find this news on the Ricoh website? It isn't in the recent news items.

The fact that there's a completely unlabeled button on the top left of the back leads me to think that this is a prototype...a fairly advanced one, but still not finished. So still holding out hope that a finished one will have some form of articulating screen. Given that almost all higher end cameras have them now, seems very strange to go back on that.
Lots of buttons, I hope there’s one dedicated to changing the focus points.

I don't have a problem with the ergonomics of the K-7/5/3 I do think these top dials make it worse Looks like the top lcd is slightly larger than the one on the K-1 because the dials seem to have shrunk in diameter. Hence less options and a new S.Fn button (changing the function of the function dial????). My main bout is a missing articulating/flippy screen. It is great for shooting from different perspectives. A real creative tool.

It looks like a defect on the coating of the cover. Not really surprising to see on a prototype.
