I’ll point out we don’t know the final product won’t have a hinged screen. This might not actually be the final product form.

Assuming the model we are seeing is representative of the final product, I just find it odd that the LCD is fixed, considering the current K-70, KP, and K-1 all have movable screens.

But, whatever. For me it's not a big deal as I use my K-70 for macro, and I find I use its flippy screen less than I thought I would. I can't seem to visualize the composition through the flippy screen as well as I can when I actually have my eyes at the level I intend to shoot.

It most probably is, apart from some details. Replacing a fixed screen with a hinged one wouldn't be considered as a small modification. For instance the moulds would have to be replaced and the EMR studies would have to be redone from scratch. If so, forget about the camera being launched any time soon.

dfa 150-450

da 560

Until the (hopefully) new AF system is trialed with these lenses we really have no idea.

I understand folks doing astro photography really wanting a flip screen of some nature, but if Ricoh had to make some design choices as they were packing new technologies into the camera, I'd happily give up a flippy screen for many of the other features we hope for, like killer AF and a hybrid OVF. And I can also see a basic flip screen being so easy it wasn't included on this mock up.

Surely this depends more on the pixel-pitch of the sensor than whether it is aps-c or FF ? For example the K5 has the same pixel pitch as the K1, so cropping the K1 image yields the same number of pixels in the final image.

Because those are what the competition currently offers.

The DFA 150-450 is an excellent zoom, however serious wildlife enthusiasts want a larger aperture.

The DA 560/5.6 also seems to be excellent, however it is actuallly larger than the Canon 600/4, and the Sigma 500/4 is quite a bit shorter as well as faster.

There's also no 300/2.8 or at least a fast-focusing 300/4 available. Many serious wildlife enthusiasts build a system around a 300/2.8 + various teleconverters.

Edit: @Mistral75 beat me by 2 minutes!

It would seem to me that macro shooters would favor APS-C for the same reason birders or sports/action shooters would too. That being able to fill the image/sensor with more of subject without losing pixels by cropping the final image. Macro shooters will probably agree what a godsend flippy/articulated screens are. Lack of a movable screen would probably more a weight/size/cost decision rather than intended market.
It's an interesting one, that - I use my K-3 for macro - almost exclusively these days - for the extra frame filling capacity and pixel density that it offers with the 100mm macro over the K-1, and I often miss the k-1 flip out screen - in theory. The truth is though, that I seldom use live view to macro focus, and bracing the camera against my face helps stability when the dof is wafer thin - because most macro is of inescts, and most is hand held. So I don't know IN REALITY if a flippy screen would help - just as watching through the viefinder (plus AF speed) work better than live view for most moving wildlife or sports action.

Articulated screen is very useful in landscape work when your camera position is very low down. Although better will be a robust app for your smartphone.

But some killer high ISO performance might make this less important.

On mine we're still on page 9.
I prefer to just scroll down rather than continuously switch to a new page, so opted for the longest possible pages :-)

Subject isolation/minimize busy background. Sometimes you just can't get the composition right, so you have to rely on a large aperture...

300/2.8 @ f/2.8

Point taken. Pentax is in no position to compete in that field.
