Perhaps that sensor will also wake the camera out of sleep mode when you put it to your eye...that would be nice! I don't know how many times I quickly try to focus my K3 on a bird (using back-button focus), and nothing happens, then I realize the camera is still in sleep mode as I'm missing the shot.

I also leave the rear screen off to help extend battery life (except to review and menu's) and rely on the top LCD and viewfinder for settings. Besides, I find the back screen distracting if I leave it on all the time.
In fact, rear screen in live view mode, when you need to focus at high magnification, should turn on more directly than in K-3.

Perhaps those better at reading these Delphic pronouncements than I am can explain what he is hinting at. More AF points? Something else?
Weren't the Pythian oracles under the influence of "vapors"?

M4/3 would be even better. The Olympus OMD EM-1 II has in camera focus stacking for some great macro work.
Focus stacking has also been backported to the first EM-1 and is also on the EM-5 II. It's very cool.

Smart move to use the K-1's proven ergonomic design with their flagship APS-C camera. Hopefully they use the time and money saved from design to improve AF.
It's not just about improving AF. The error also occurs with fixed focal length lenses. Focus indication slightly before or slightly behind the actual optimal focus plane, depending on the lighting. This can only be improved in LV mode with high magnification. I focus not on the eye, but on individual eyelashes. But this requires time that we don't always have in excess.

I'm not sure what he's trying to say... clearly, the APS-C flagship was approved (as it's officially promised).

Maybe he's thinking there are different prototypes under testing, and it's not decided yet which to make?
But it can't be that sort of competition he's describing - and the different versions would be made by the same team.

I sort of like that I only need to push a single button using my thumb, easily enough to accomplish, though I will concede that my thumb is pretty long. Are you suggesting the camera go to live view automatically using the eyepiece sensor?

I just though of another good use for the eyepiece sensor. How about it activate an eyepiece blind for on-tripod shooting? Stray light from the eyepiece is a known cause of meter error as well as light leak during long exposure. I currently shadow with my thumb, but would use a blind if one were there.

I think you are right.

Pentax pays at least a little bit of attention to this Forum
So then, what would we like to have this body Inside?

WLAN
GPS + Astrotracer
Improved IBIS
Improved pixelshift
Improved accellerator unit with on/off switch
At least 8fps RAW
At least 40 Raw-files buffer
4k 30fps and FullHD 120fps prores video with log-profile and full Manual setting-control

Eye-AF
Highly improved AF.C
Around 30 megapixel
Dual native ISO
Improved WR or it being the first AW Body
To be used in temperature down to -20°C.
Hybrid Viewfinder
AllWeather tilt-type monitor
Edit: In-body focus-stacking (seriously)
How about inbody nightscape-panorama-stacking? (joking)
...

So we'd like to get an aps-c body that beats the top of the line fullframe bodies of other companies, but it should be below 1.600USD.
I think some of this won't happen.

Of all the assumptions, opinions and claims in this thread so far, I'd say this one has the loudest ring of certainty to it

not needed:
WLAN
GPS + Astrotracer
4k 30fps and FullHD 120fps prores video with log-profile and full Manual setting-control
Eye-AF
Dual native ISO
Hybrid Viewfinder
AllWeather tilt-type monitor

needed;
optical view finder
Improved IBIS
Improved pixelshift
At least 8fps RAW
A fast Raw-files buffer and with fast buffer clear times.
improved AF.C
Around 30 megapixel maybe 36 (happy with 26)
fixed or articulate screen
large top lcd
less knobs

as you can see we all differ in our needs

They do not need to improve AF.
This new body introduces the Pentax FreezeFrameMode, activated with the black knob. It makes the subject freeze in motion for about 5 seconds so that the AF will find it.

How about Eye-AF where the camera tracks my eye to select the focus point.

And voice-activated shooting:
I say: "Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
And it will take a pic for every "r" in realtime.
[Edit: and of course the silent mode where it reads my mind, very useful for wedding shooters!]

What about modular software-kits to choose from? Landscape-kit, Bif-kit, video-kit,...?
