Manufacturers have had issues with being transparent over how they intend to resolve that issue..

Shape, dial placement looks much like the K-1 and K-1II.

Built in GPS and no pop-up flash.

And, above and to the right of the green button is something which can only be a joystick.

I'm going to guess touch-screen too, based on what looks like a proximity sensor for touch-screen auto on/off directly below the viewfinder.
Exactly all of the above and ...

- Major video leap is my additional guess. But feel 50-50 about it because Pentax has not made this a priority for a long time.
- Some or a lot of GRIII features ported.

A guess suggests the 3-function dial also selects a set of data presented in the top screen, which is then controlled /interacted with by the new S.Fn button. Might the top screen be an OLED?

The blank upper left button is a true mystery, but a WA Guess suggests it has to do with viewfinder display in some way.

It is fun to have fun speculating again!

Yep...I really need to get a little icon with an iron.

The K-1 has a 2-way thumb switch.
Another member clarified it is the KP with the 3-way switch. You can tell what cameras I have had limited time with.

I'll add my opinion to the mix.

This is no "one off body shell". It's very clearly very nearly production ready. Mock-up shells don't show that level of detail.
I'm inclined to agree, though with the considerable advances in 3D printing an alternative explanation could be this is still a mock-up.. albeit a very detailed one.

The lack of a built-in flash is rather illuminating... at least to me, it indicates a possibility that Pentax/Ricoh could be working on a wireless flash solution to make up for the lack of an in-built flash on this model, and on the K-1 MKII.

Such a development would be a welcome one, especially if Pentax developed a partnership with a flash manufacturer (e.g Profoto,Elinca) that could alleviate the strain on Ricohs budget and R&D faculties, and develop novel and powerful flash tools.

not for me, I'd enjoy the less bulky, less weight in a Pentax DSLR

This one might be called the KP-E, E for extra, exceptional, excite...

Has anyone noticed there is more than one example of the New K Series DSLR posted here. One clearly shows tape covering the upper right where the model number would show and there is one where there is no visible cover over the model number or has it been cloned out.

The first were Photoshopped images released by Pentax, the second were photographs of the displayed camera. Hence the tape.

The thought has passed my mind as well.

The version at the beginning of this thread shows a piece of tape. The version posted from the Saturday fan event clearly shows tape too. Were there versions other than from the event and the official Ricoh release from Friday?

i'll have to look at the Ricoh/Pentax released photos again. The existence of the tape indicates that they have decided on a model number and they just didn't want that information out now. So its my guess that this camera is very close to production.

Where did these higher resolution images come from? Ricoh?

Edit: Tanaka-san?

Sorry, it wasn't the very first pics posted, it was a later higher res version.

Somebody commented on the repeating dot pattern.

If the upper right corner of the camera image was cloned out it is further confirmation that they have given it a model number.
