According to the DPR "Camera Feature Search" there are only a handful of ILC's that have both a GPS and flash... and all of those cameras are at least 5 years old. Interesting.

The new camera will show up soon or kill KP sales.

For a long time since K5 the new camera looks like it has new Features not just incremental improvements.
I’d say the KP and this new camera are very different. They will show different strengths and I guess the new one will cost some dollars more. So, room enough for different fans and their priorities - my 2cts.

The KP is enough for some of us - why would we pay the extra cost of this new camera?

Anyone who wants a movable screen and a built in flash.

Now we are talking!

I'd buy an improvement on the K-1 in a heartbeat. Not that the K-1 isn't fantastic, it is. I'd just buy the next FF flagship no matter what.
No mandatory "accelerator", though, please!

So it is...my mistake. For some reason I thought that the KP had the feature.

My thoughts are that anyone who bought a KP and is happy with it would be just as happy staying with their purchase. The KP is a very nice camera.

Yes, the KP is an idiosyncratic camera - you either love what it has or miss what it doesn't have; my understanding is that the new camera (*) is for those in the latter group.

(*) interesting how quickly I moved from "K-3ii replacement" to "new camera"

I’m not quite convinced that the screen isn’t flippy because of the little indentation below the lower right corner of the screen. It looks to me like an access point to pull out the screen, a thinner version than the KP. After having a KP I can’t imagine Pentax designing a camera without it. It would be like having a camera without a viewfinder, oh wait, they did that. I’m sure there will be some pleasant surprises, but they could give these away for free and some people won’t be happy. I believe with each new camera they try to attract new customers while still filling the niche they have.

I agree. For me it is all I need at the moment and the new camera won't make it in my personal camera bag, despite its unquestioned qualities. If one wish would be allowed for a new iteration of the KP, sometime in the future, it would be to still give it GNSS/GPS. For my purposes this (beside the obvious new sensor and maybe touchscreen) would keep it the layd back small travel camera attribute, and there I would love to see the possibilitiy to geolocate the images as a documentation.
However, the new one K3 style was long awaited and I'm sure many will find a lot of the new features it will bring to the table very useful and attractive.

Yes, the KP is an excellent camera for generalist and even some specialist uses. The low light performance is frankly outstanding. Taken with a K-1 there is absolutely nothing I cannot shoot that I want to shoot.

We’ll see what I do when then K-1 replacement(s) come(s) around.

Of course if one of the 24x36 cameras under development is a FF KP that will put an interesting spin on everything.

I believe - that is, it is my opinion, backed by several users of the K-1ll who also have a K-1, that the supposed loss of detail from the Accelerator is essentially academic; that there is a mathematically assertable potential loss of detail but any actual loss of detail is essentially not discernible.

"better low light performance? how dare they!?" :P
haha yep I've heard the same. Very, very little detection of loss detail paired with delectably less noise.. I can't wait to use the accelerator!
