It's a button to change the format of your sensor. It works this way:

* push one time to change to FF
* push again to change to MF
* push again to came back to APS-C

This change is temporary, just for the next pic. Keeping the camera in a larger format consumes a lot of battery.

Well, I actually meant the Mystery button was formerly a Playback button, at least on >MY< camera. Every time someone says
"Where LV currently is" my immediate reaction is 'that's not correct'.
It is the LV button on the K1, which happens to be the 'current' flagship. The K1 playback button is in a much better place (in my opinion) as it can be selected by the thumb of the hand holding the camera. When I (rarely) use my K5, the playback button is in the wrong place!

I thought we had discovered, using fuzzy-logic AI algorithms, that there wasn’t going to be a rear screen.

The one on the test article is for testing only.

Instead, the button on the back toggles the OVF overlay that does playback there.

The additional viewfinder hump is for the extra lens that magnifies the OVF, making it appear larger than it is.

And yes, the sky is a lovely shade of yellow today

We have let this take us down through the whole rabbit warren, haven’t we?

If it is truly undecided then this camera is a lot further from production than the incredibly production looking ready reveal would suggest.
Making the change either way would require significant redesign. I'm confident the behavior of the screen has already been decided.
But But, that won't change the speculation one iota!!

Why get annoyed? This is a friendly forum where everybody can air their opinion and wild speculations. If you don't like a post, skip to the next and be happy.
Friends don't let friends deny reality

I won't explain myself further, this is off-topic and I'd rather fill my raffle quota with more meaningful posts - or at least funny ones.

There's a higher risk of people breaking fingernails while trying to pry out fixed LCDs by grabbing them from imaginary notches

I think I'll open a camera repair shop specialized in re-gluing said LCDs, and a manicure saloon next to it (looking for a partner here).
Special service for members of PF and DPR only. I'll use the money to fund the purchase of the next K-1 and a few upcoming lenses.

P.S. I'm not angry, just annoyed by this insistence that the water is dry and the sky bright yellow.
Got any room for a manufacturing engineering student in that repair facility? Maybe when we fix their screens, we can charge to add a flippy screen module as well!

Perhaps the mystery button is "just" for cycling through
  • touch-sensitivity for the screen is off
  • touch-sensitivity for the screen is sensor-controlled
  • touch-sensitivity for the screen is on
?

I was initially considering a Nikon D6 but with the computer workstation/server upgrade. I am more inclined to go for one of this new model Pentax. Since i use my K200d often i don't really feel the need for a tilty screen and besides i made a hinged mirror with small mirrors form aliexpress that sticks to velcro over the rear lcd. Two mirrors makes it more of less a canon like flip screen. No touch screen just a poor mans periscope but hey it works

Again. I don't know why they'd not show the marking on the button - for one nobody would understand the symbol (), and for two most people are assuming a toch screen because it looks like the GRIII screen

I can't believe that I actually read the last 4 pages of this "thread".

More like the random walk of the proverbial drunken sailor. . . who's trying to get more raffle tickets.

What?? Who, me?

Perhaps we need an AA sub forum for raffle addiction. ;-)

The mysterious button allows to toggle between 12-bit A/D conversion and 14-bit A/D conversion:
  • 12-bit for maximum frame rate
  • 14-bit for maximum image quality
