It would be simpler to just check a list of registered trademarks/names if that was available. Otherwise, lots of thread filling which will continue until the official announcement. To me, the best unused single number left in the k series is 8, so maybe It will be the K-8. This leaves the K-2 model designation for full-frame.

They need to find a new naming structure for the crop- and full frame cameras.

I still don't see why they have to stick with K anything - they never used to when they were an independant company
I still vote for "Fred". K-Fred if you like, but I think "Fred" is more elegant. Perhaps I should write that as {Fred}, thus indicating
all possible variations of "Fred", (Sally, Tom, Alex, Kym, etc). Come to think of it, "Kym" isn't bad. Maintains the "K" theme while
setting precedent for moving forward.

The tape covering the body where the name goes and pixellated bottom photo shows Ricoh has already decided on a name, so all we can do is guess (and post).

I wouldn't be surprised if the flagship lines got consolidated K-1 mk X and K-2 mk Y, à la Canon/Sony/Olympus.
Ugh. The very thought makes my sense of design crumble into a little ball and weep. What next? BMW suffixes to indicate what little changes have
been introduced between models?

Really? Or do you mean a word in French is phonetically the same as the French pronunciation of 'K-C'. Not quite the same thing.

QuoteOriginally posted by Mistral75 Quote
More precisely, in French K-C is homophonous to cassé, which means broken.
Beat me to it.

I'm having dejà vu here. Haven't we had this *exact same* thing a million pages ago with the K-C name?
Indeed we have. Let's talk about something new; whatta y'all think about that rear screen, might it be a flippy thingy?

I personally think they should stick with K-3. Consolidate the naming schedule so that the K-1 is on top with "K-2" available if they choose. K-3 is the APS flagship line. If they want to introduce lower specced cameras, they could always add to the K-5 or K-7 lines. The problem I see is with the K-70 line. Where do they go from here? 20 numbers after 70 is K-90 but then where? K-110?

No, in French it is read Ka-Sé (more or less, quite literally pardon my French here), which is homophone with "cassé" which means broken. So quite the same thing.

As funny bonus, in Spanish it's impossible to read the hypothetical "K-C" name without it something "Cacé" which means "I hunted". much like the AF I'm sorry

K2 has already been used. The Pentax K2 was the flagship model of the camera trio Pentax introduced in 1975.

So the model progression is now retrograde??? All the more reason {Fred} is better.

^^^^^^^^

Dear Pentax, I grant full usage of the naming convention {Fred} and ask only for a shiny new 'Fred' in payment,
delivered upon its eventual release.

Yes and no. Cars have much more variation >within< a given model and model year, thus requiring further delineation. The important
part is that the name 'Passat' is consistent year to year and thus we can speak of the 2006 Passat or the 2017 Passat. So, without
further ado, introducing the 2020 Pentax {Fred}.

Panasonic already has the LX series LX10 LX15. Might get a bit confusing for some. ;-)
