The touch screen of the Ricoh GR III is asymmetrical as well.

The machine shown is not the final version, just one of many models.

I'm hearing such "rumors" almost daily, for the last decades.
Why did you link to that troll's thread?

Any source on that? I am also inclined to think that some parts look slightly unfinished but I unless we have Ricoh confirmation, this is just speculation.

I thought they said that there were four prototypes. My impression was they were all exactly the same, but I suppose there could be slight differences between them.

I've heard of three but this doesn't make a big difference. One copy is currently showcased in Japan and another one touring France.

Yeah, my understanding from the pictures is that the units doing the rounds are identical.

R.I.P. Pentax (The Nikon Z50 marks the end of Pentax: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review).

Recently there was an unconfirmed rumour that Ricoh had bought the technical stuff, but that the rights to the name Pentax would remain with Hoya and that Ricoh only has them until 2020, so there are no new Pentax cameras anymore because Ricoh will soon not be able to call them Pentax anymore.
Has anyone ever heard of it
Ricoh owns the Pentax imaging division outright and have paid Hoya $124 million.
This rumour has is completely false and has no basis whatsoever.

However they did not purchase the Pentax brand / trademark, only the right to use it (licence agreement), the sources of this being the World Intellectual Property Organization and their own statement.

In what does this article differ from what I wrote?

I wrote, quoting the very same report:
QuoteOriginally posted by Mistral75 Quote
Ricoh have confirmed that Hoya are the holder of the registration of the Pentax trademark but they stated they would keep the right to use it after 2020.
QuoteOriginally posted by Ricoh:
'No, [the rumor] is not a fact.

Hoya is the owner of the PENTAX trademark, but there are no restrictions or limitations attached for RICOH to use the PENTAX brand in the camera business.

We will continue to offer the PENTAX brand products including new items.'
Source: Ricoh denies rumors it will lose the right to use the Pentax brand name | Digital Photography Review
then:
QuoteOriginally posted by Mistral75 Quote
However they did not purchase the Pentax brand / trademark, only the right to use it (licence agreement), the sources of this being the World Intellectual Property Organization and their own statement.
and Ricoh stated that:
QuoteOriginally posted by Ricoh:
"This is not a fact at all. It is true that Hoya is the owner of the PENTAX trademark, but there are no restrictions or limitations for Ricoh to use the Pentax brand in the camera business. We will continue to offer the Pentax brand cameras beyond 2020."
So?

Just adding backup to your statement, no need to get snippy about it.

My apologies if I sounded snippy but I didn't understand what you meant by quoting the same report as me a few posts before yours.

And if you don’t like trusting Ricoh’s statements that they will continue to make Pentax cameras, you could look at their actions.

- They released Pentax branded products as recently as this summer
- They exhibited a future product that clearly has Pentax branding
- They are putting quite a lot of marketing effort into promoting 100 years of Pentax

None of this is consistent with discontinuing use of the brand name.

True @JPT. Who in there right mind would introduce new lenses and a new camera and just call it quits. The cost for manufacturing and releasing new stuff costs millions. It's absurd to just throw in the towel after such investments.
