MRSP $295.00
Sorry, that's too expensive. I can't buy it for anything over $100 including the 16-85 kit lens.

But it will include $150 rebate + $100 discount for your next purchase on Pentax products.

I was happy on page one of the thread. Pentax had finally put some life into their promises to deliver a replacement "Flagship" camera .... and I have already purchased their KP.

Hey, now there is a thought for Adam's Tee Shirt competition... "This K-new's for YOU!"
Hopefully without the Bud beer lawsuit to follow of course....

Since there's some who brought up the possibility of the unlabeled button being a release for the screen I thought of another possible use for the eye sensor which ties into the patents for Switchable Phase/Contrast detect AF and possibly the hybrid viewfinder.
When in live view, when you raise the camera to your eye, it automatically switches from the screen to the viewfinder while still using contrast detect (with face/smile/eye or whatever focus they implement)..

Just a thought.

Perhaps the button has something to do with connectivity. This is certainly an area for improvement.

What, no free grip + flash + an assortment of mostly useless 'freebies'?

You forgot to include the smiley face.
Seriously, I've never spent more than $700 on a camera - and then the KP came down to that last "Black Friday", so I purchased one before they changed their mind. Not even a Pentaxian should expect this camera to start off "cheap".

Here it is

I'm not. I fully expect this new camera to be upwards of $1500 new. I'll wait until either a used one comes around or until some Black Friday and get it then.

If it has even a few of the improvements posters are imagining we will be lucky if it is anywhere near $1500.

It's been a while since I've taken any chemistry classes, but my pasta cooking experiences have exposed me to a lot of salted water. Haven't noticed any strong acids or caustic bases yet. Pity...it would make boiling water more exciting.

Regarding the price, my most expensive camera was my K-5 seven years ago ($800.00). It had already been out for nearly two years at that point; they announced the K-5 II a couple of months after I pulled the trigger. The best time to buy a camera cheaply is near or after its successor is announced.

Have you noticed how expensive new photo gear has become? I suspect that the camera companies are trying to make up on price what they can no longer get on volume, now that everybody is toting around a smartphone with enough computing power to make a minuscule sensor see in the dark.

These conversations will definitely go until new leaks from Pentax arrived, where do you think Asahiman is nowadays?
