My experimentation here has convinced me that flash at low ISO is inferior to ambient light at 12800

A flash will always reveal more fine detail if it can be used IMO, but ISO 12800 is useful in the museums as you state.

I am surprised to see this thread has run to 214 pages already

I never said I never use flash. For example, I use flash at home to show that our black cat is more than just a black shape - that she has detail - but my Q-7 and K-30 are adequate for that.

In theory this thread is about the new APS-C camera - the camera that people who find the KP to be inadequate.

In contrast, I have become a big fan of using ambient light, because unless one hauls lots of professional lighting around, it is hard to provide good lighting via artificial lighting.
Look at this video, look at the results and tell me how many professional lightings were used. I use a lot the ambient light because I'm lazy and I don't want to carry a lot of things with me. If the light is that bad to need the build in pop up flash, I don't use my camera, I use my phone with it's build in flash. Why carry a big camera for a snapshot?

That’s the real reason for the delay in the 70-200f4... it’s an over/under design. The top portion is the lens proper, but there’s a secondary barrel to store and launch the flares when paired with the K-new.
Flare launcher is a better option than flash for landscape photography at night, the flare illuminate the landscape much further away than a flash could do.

And it can work for short pieces of video

Maybe a return to large trays of flash powder is in the future

So now the rumor is that the K-new has a true "pop-up" flash -- a flash that pops up into the air and fires the flash and shutter at the optimal time.

Cool! I'd buy that!

I prefer the term `available light'... I also rarely use a flash, but I will sometimes move the available light sources around, like in the picture below.

Maybe the new camera will come with a detachable iPad..?

Yes, available light I wanted to say. I was thinking at it and wrote ambient light.

You lifted the shadows under the "chin" of the cat by using a different type of "reflector"? I like it.

That's because the moderation didn't close it even though it's completely off topic.

It's raffle time, you know...

Well, to go back... slighly on the topic ^^
We still don't know what mechanism is activated by the mystery button !
We suppose the AF is way better, but I don't see why it should need a button for it.
So ? The switch between OVF and some sort of EVF, possibly not with same functionalities than others, but however something between ?

Recently at least, the discussion has been completely on target. The discussion of flash vs available light at higher ISO, of flash vs GPS in the prism housing, is completely encompassed by the title "New K-series DSLR under development to be exhibited". My involvement in this discussion has not been increased by the 'raffle'; in fact, since I already have a KP and a 55-300mm lens, I am not compelled by the 'raffle' to participate.

Maybe a multi-function button of some sort depending on other settings or functions.

Maybe it's for the new HyperSR® (Subject Stabilization) system that holds the subject still for the shot.

Who needs lightning-fast AF or a billion frames-a-second if the camera could stabilize the subject!?!?!?!?
