Likes are still a "lazy" way of anyone getting rewards. They can be stacked in favor of others, thru friendship. I do enjoy receiving likes myself; but again I don't think they should count for anything but what they were intended for.

I guess I haven't been looking at the right threads

I haven't notice much, if any, posts you describe

the one exception is where someone responded to a 3 years old thread

I agree with Allen. I frankly have not seen any posts that I would consider "useless crap". Everyone has the right to post what they wish (within the Terms of Service); and I've enjoyed the threads/posts I read.

Last year, we gave away three Pentax K-1's. This year, we're going even bigger: I'm happy to announce the first phase of the PentaxForums.com "100 years in 100 days" giveaway and contest series!

Contest Period

The first phase of the event will last from October 1 through October 31st. Subsequent phases will follow in November and December, with different sets of prizes each month, including lenses, cameras, and swag.

This giveaway series will feature rotating prizes in three different categories: "past", "present", and "future", to honor vintage, classic, and next-generation Pentax gear.

How to Enter

Starting at midnight GMT on October 1st, there are three ways to enter to win each set of three prizes!

Prizes

Winner Announcement & Contest Tracking

The winners for this month's raffles will be announced at the beginning of November, and the winners of the photo contest will be announced in the third week of November, per our usual photo contest procedure.

As usual, there are no geographical restrictions on who may enter, but limit one grand prize per household for the duration of the event.

There will be a notice at the top of each forum page so that you can track your raffle progress:

Good luck and have fun! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone active on the forum throughout this event to celebrate this big milestone for Pentax.

See this thread to view other prizes in other months.

Should check post a photo and photo critique where people are bumping years old threads all the time just to boost their post count quickly.

A problem in this regard is: if you sort the threads by "last post time" instead of "thread start time" and 1 person starts posting in old threads the rest might follow by accident

I found a number of "jewels" amongst the collection that were posted in a previous contest; photos were comment on / posted so quickly that a few went by unnoticed, even though they were quite worthy of being noticed.

perfect example what I meant by who judges the " quality " of a current post

I can understand why one might comment on an " older " thread, I usually don't

but who made me the one who determines what is a adequate comment or post

no one

therefore I shouldn't be one

We do too much 'judging' here.
We should follow the rules;
if we don't like these rules, we should change them next time
{in fact, @Adam does, based on comments}

Was it a realetive quote, to the 3 year old subject, or was it just randomness? Because sometimes when you search subject matter, it digs up dinosaurs!

There are no specific rules for what is and isn't appropriate for this giveaway. That said, regular forum rules do apply- and it is against the rules to flood the forum with meaningless posts. So, folks who do that within the scope of this giveaway will face the same consequences they would otherwise, with the possible added consequence of disqualification. I think common sense would go a long way as far as the appropriateness of posts goes

Please feel free to report bulk/meaningless posts should you come across any.
