Theta Smart Device Plug-in

With the Smart Device plug-in, Amazon Alexa lets you use your voice to control Ricoh Theta by speaking commands through your Alexa device. Alexa will take photos and video using Auto mode and and change still image shooting settings. Shooting settings can be changed for each of HDR rendering, DR compensation or noise reduction.

By linking with the already released File Cloud Upload V2 plug-in, the image can be uploaded to Google Drive every time the session is over. (Alexa cannot control Ricoh Theta when the image is uploaded.)

To operate Theta using this function, the following steps must be completed in advance:
  • Install the Smart Device plug-in to Ricoh Theta
  • Register an account to the Smart Device website (Smart Device)
  • Install Ricoh Theta skill in to your 'Work with Alexa device' such as Amazon Echo
  • Link your Alexa account with the account registered in the website above.

For details of the settings, refer to the manual below.
https://support.theta360.com/intl/ricoh_plugins/pdf/smartdevice_en.pdf

Samples to ask Alexa:
  • To start Ricoh Theta
"Alexa, open Ricoh Theta"
  • Shooting still images
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to shoot an image"
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to take a photo"
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to snap an image"
  • Shooting videos
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to shoot a video"
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to capture a movie for 5 minutes"
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to stop shooting"
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to stop video recording"
  • Changing the still image shooting settings
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to turn HDR rendering on"
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to enable DR compensation"
"Alexa, ask Ricoh Theta to turn Noise reduction on"

I suppose - ask long as you take your Alexa where ever you want to use it!

Yep, I hate those kind of things.
Good for those who like it though.

Same here: never in my house, at least until I'm completely senile and at the mercy of others.

Exactly: to each their own.

But even an Alexa Allergeek Pentaxian should support this plug-in and hope for its success: the more people get interested in Theta cameras, the more Ricoh sell them; the more they do, the more the Theta business earns money and the more it does, the more money Smart Vision can spend in R&D and marketing for the Pentax business.
