This lens release confirms the Pentax commitment to the APSC format, not just introducing token kit zooms like some others.

The DA Wide Zoom has been on the roadmap since February 2012 and has taken ages to develop, therefore I wouldn't link its release to any particular camera. Besides it works just fine with the KP: one doesn't particularly need a first-class autofocus, machine-gun frame rate, large buffer, 1/8,000s (mechanical) / 1/24,000s (electronic) shutter speed and so on with such a lens. On the other hand, a tilting LCD is definitely something useful with such a lens on a tripod (e.g. astrophotography)...
No, but I would link it to a KAF3 mount development.

You could enter your opinion of the future of Pentax APS-C. Is this something Pentax is "stuck" with like DSLR, or are they going to press forward with enthusiasm?

Odd. The K-New would surpass the Nikon D500 but not so obviously the Canon EOS 90D, even though the D500 is one class above the 90D?
maybe means video mode ?

Indeed, it could be the video mode that prevents the Ricoh Imaging representative to proclaim the K-New as superior to the Canon EOS 90D. If so, no big deal.

I think you’re overthinking it. It’s just a translated recollection of a casual comment.

One simple explanation would be that he realized he was sounding a bit too full of himself in saying it was better than the D500 and toned his next answer down to seem more humble.

Another thought is that the new K-? is designed to be a match for the D500, but doesn’t match the higher resolution of the 90D. The new Canon sensor is 32mp and there is no existing Sony sensor that matches that. He might see it as less of a clear win.

Anyway, it’s certain to be a considerable jump up from the K-3 and the K-5 IIs. That’s what matters to me.

I expect to be surprised. But if I knew what to expect, I wouldn't be surprised.

^ If I'm not mistaken, Hagibis went East of the northern island of Hokkaido. Sapporo is located on the western coast of Hokkaido.

How, may I ask, does one "sneak" any camera with a 70-200 f/2.8 into an event?

I don't know... Inside a trench coat? Cover the Nikon logos with Masking tape and write "Pentax" on it. Wear very baggy pants. I am sure there are lots of ways to smuggle a large lens into an intimate gathering. Shooting with it while there, that might be a little harder.
