OK now I know what honing is
Flat honing - Wikipedia
I agree it is metal. I had come across grinding and lapping but never honing. I still think it could have been described as metal rather than metallic, why waste three letters.
Does 'metallic' in English mean 'fake metal' ? It certainly does not in French.

It "can" mean resembling metal. Glitter is metallic but does not contain metal for example.

Fits best on darker K200D silver :
Looks cool. Congrats.

In France and the UK too.
Goodness gracious.

Hope Ricoh isn't getting any ideas from this regarding their future pricing schemes...

I'm OK with limited items being priced out into the stratosphere, as long as the plain version still offers a great value for money proposition.

They could get ideas regarding the release of more fan stuff in the future.

Do they think the value of this is it's limited run or just the charm of the commemorative? If more the latter than the former they could make more money selling more of them worldwide. But they may think the "limited" number is the attraction. I have no idea.

My understanding is that Japanese culture includes lots of "collectors" - people who gather things like a 'silver' camera that normally occurs in 'black' only. If my understanding is correct, they value items for their rareness and/or unusualness, and these items were produced primarily as a limited run - they would be of less value in the home market if they were produced to meet demand.

Ricoh Imaging have opened 'fan products' pages on their European online stores (.de, .fr, .co.uk), see for instance Fan products.

Only they know what they think.

It is certain though that they are making out like bandits, selling an item that probably didn’t cost more than a dollar for fifty bucks.

Soon we will see them on eBay, “Rare Pentax 100 Years Hotshoe Cover”, “Limited Edition!”, selling for $100 or more.

They show this category since some time, at least 2017. No connection the the anniversary.

Fine by me, if it makes them money.

We just don't want to create the impression that Pentaxians have enormously deep pockets.

It would be weird for Pentax to be the only brand which doesn't sell such products worldwide.
