You guys will be busy this month. I hope we will have one in our city. I'll be in Manila this November. Maybe they'll have one there. At least I could add up to the crowd that'll be there.

Pentax really hit the nail IMO, not just with this camera - they managed to find a distinctive design, which looks both rugged and nice and it's a delight to use.
Of course, the usual suspects on that other site, when they want to criticize but aren't competent enough to find a real reason, would say "it's ugly".

No one in their right mind should say that the K-1 or KP are "ugly". They might be sober, rugged, classical, maybe "hard" as they have more pronounced lines compared to the roundness of Canikon. I would even accept "chunky". But "ugly" wouldn't pass my mind.
And they are darn comfortable. I was shooting the K-1 with the 28-105 during an 18-km hike (going up ~450 m and then trekking around a quite mountainous area) and despite the weight and the exercise of just getting there, it did not feel heavy in hand at all.

For those who can make the trip, please take into account the the only out of Japan dedicated Pentax Shop (3 rue Lucien Sampaix) is about 10 minutes walk to or from "L'atelier des artistes" (4 rue Rampon) where the events will take place :

I'm just back home from the 100th Anniversary Pentax event in Paris organised in Paris at l'Atelier des Artistes.

Back with a lot of goodies: Pentax 100 Years of History black polo shirt, black baseball cap, black bag, grey/black camera strap, silver lens cap and Ricoh Pentax Photography black chamoisine (cleaning cloth).

And back with a few pieces of information:
  • The Ricoh GR III is a terrific success in Europe: 4 months on backorder, sales in units are 10 times those of the GR II.
  • Ricoh Theta sales are progressing steadily. Most of them are to professionals, mainly in the real estate sector, therefore direct sales or indirect sales through distributors specialising in professional equipment and almost no sales through photo outlets.
  • Pentax products follow the general market trend: minus 20% in sales year on year. One exception: Switzerland, where a new guy took over the relation with the local importer/distributor (Switzerland is not a member of the European Union). His predecessor died suddenly one and a half years ago and hadn't been replaced until recently, hence a rapid decline in sales followed by a surge.
  • 2020 will see the launch of (i) the K-New and (ii) lenses (plural)
  • The working sample showcased under glass is the real thing. Only the firmware needs fine tuning.

The report from Mistral75 is encouraging. Perhaps the release is closer than we expected.

I think the feast camera companies have enjoyed during the birth and infancy of digital is going to give way to something more like the old days of film.

Thanks for the info regarding the K-new and lenses.

It is instantly recognizable as a Pentax. Yet I bet nearly every surface is a new design..

Thanks for the update. Looking like we'll soon find out more about this new camera and the lenses that will accompany it on release.
