Ohio was the " mideast ", not the " midwest "

Yeah, geographically, the midwest is more like Utah and Colorado. Cincinnati is a heck of a lot closer to the east coast than the west.

we figured it as to what states was close to the Mississippi River

definitely

Minnesota and Wisconsin to the north

Iowa and Illinois [ perhaps Indiana and Michigan ]

and not too far south

so Missouri was in

We were almost as far as the country went when the Northwest Ordinance was passed - then came the Louisiana Purchase.

For three years I lived in Rice County, Kansas, so I refer to place like Kansas as "Midwest", and to Indiana as part of the "Great Lakes States". Technically I believe the OP {and I} are part of the "Ohio River Valley"; my sister-in-law {who lived in New York, now in California, just avoids the whole thing by referring to us as "Flyover Country".

Better known as the Northwest Ordinance, it provided a path toward statehood for the territories northwest of the Ohio River, encompassing the area that would become the future states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and part of Minnesota

I wonder if the part of Minnesota was the part north and east of the Mississippi River

all the other states are north and west of the Ohio River

and east of the Mississippi

Imagine the consequences if Napoleon hadn’t needed gold to finance his goals. I think we’ve wandered off topic

in the area I grew up in East Central Illinois

Kansas was the northern part of the SouthWest

where the Cowboys and Native Americans lived ( the Wild Wild West - Dodge City, Wichita )

west of the Missouri River and east of the Rockies

Don't bet on it.

When the K1 was released, I was surprised by the fact that Roberts camera in Indianapolis actually had one in stock.

I don't know why you were surprised.
Roberts has carried Pentax for years {I got my first Pentax camera there}, and they have a national footprint.

The question I've been asking the last couple of weeks is if there are any 100 Years events scheduled for Canada and the US. So far nothing. I'm sure if Adam knew he would post something.
