When I read this I feel a little bad mood, from website 「デジカメInfo」, which means digital camera information, I've got a news said that the new APS-C flagship will on sell in Summer 2020, for me this means quite being delayed

Also, the news said the screen on camera will be unable to pull out, sorry don't know how to write that in English with single word , but I don't believe this

seems the information is from Kimio Takana's feeling about when he touch this prototype,
think about last twitter of him, he foreseen that camera's detail will be release on 2020, however it was announced just last month actually, so his utterance is not absolutely correct

you can also see more information with this link:

although I see Ooku is saying now that it will be even later.

Sony stop do new development and go forward with new camera per corona viruses problem
It was petapix web
Even with huge financial advanced Sony has problem
I presume Pentax has same problem

I think best way just wait

Sounds like the typical October announcement timeframe.

No need to hurry this.

No one who has said anything about it knows anything.

Stop giving credit to random internet posts.

It is clear that there is no real date available to public. Thus, Pentax should cancel this APS-C thing and announce K-1 MK3 using the new 61MP Sony sensor. MK2 is 2-year old re-released MK1 with an extra sugar coating on top of the cake.

I don't know about that specific sensor, but my guess is that Pentax is going to share a lot of things between this new APS-C camera and any new full frame camera they would come out with. Thus, it is pretty important that they finish it the rest of the way.

They would first need to upgrade the image processing engine, or stop making cameras. New specs and sensors are such that the current K1/K3 image processing unit can't handle anything like 26Mp @ 16 FPS or 61Mp @ 7 FPS, 4K video, over anything like UHSII or XQD or CF express. Basically, Ricoh must start (or must have started) with a new image processing plateform or just stop making cameras. Once they have a high performing image processor, they can refactor the engine for apsc, full frame, whatever. Image processing doesn't care about sensor size, it only has to be able to digest enough data such that camera performance is comparable to what Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Sony are using for their new camera models.

Of course they must upgrade the image processing pipeline. It is just that 36MP is getting a bit long in the tooth and K-1 should be the flagship product considering IQ (and price).

I still prefer higher fps, more dynamic range and less noise over higher resolution.
I never had a single situation where I wished for more than 36MPx.

You're probably right on that. Dropping milibeaut platform, dating back to K-7 might be the case why new model is in works for so long. And well there is no new milibeaut solution listed on Socionext site for some time now. Still, I think they are working hard on that new gear.

The sure thing is that the development team will have many stories about challenges succesfully faced, for the dedicated webpage, as was the case for the K-1.
