They would first need to upgrade the image processing engine, or stop making cameras. New specs and sensors are such that the current K1/K3 image processing unit can't handle anything like 26Mp @ 16 FPS or 61Mp @ 7 FPS, 4K video, over anything like UHSII or XQD or CF express. Basically, Ricoh must start (or must have started) with a new image processing plateform or just stop making cameras. Once they have a high performing image processor, they can refactor the engine for apsc, full frame, whatever. Image processing doesn't care about sensor size, it only has to be able to digest enough data such that camera performance is comparable to what Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Sony are using for their new camera models.
