Oi! Settle, petal.

I know for a fact that monochrome has bought more than his share of new and expensive lenses. How's your glass house?

Whether special or not depends on how you consider the K-mount. It was, however, nothing specific.

Buying new lenses instead of using perfectly good vintage (or very lightly used modern) equipment is the nastiest thing that can be done to hurt one's own finances. What a conundrum.

It's actually an interesting situation. Compared with other brands, it seems a larger percentage of folks buy a Pentax DSLR because they already have lenses (legacy glass) from an older relative or because they shot film decades ago and are, for the first time, buying into digital.

There are also folks who have come to greatly enjoy using legacy lenses and as a result bought an additional camera. This is the group I am in - I would most likely not have bought my K-70 (new) or K-S2 before that if I had not been using "vintage lenses".

Also, it is possible that if I were not so enamored of my old glass and focused only on new gear, I would not even be shooting Pentax.

I think using legacy lenses is a core sensibility for many Pentax users, even when some of them transition to new, modern lenses.

When I bought my first DSLR, my K-3 II, part of the consideration was the pile of legacy lenses I already had. However, I've bought a ton of new lenses, and use a mixture of new and old depending on what I'm up to. Having all that versatility will keep me buying all of the above, including new bodies, for the foreseeable future.

It is also a wrong statement.
By posting the last window Ricoh indicated the value what they got by purchasing the Pentax lens system.
Existing stock of K-mount lenses is one of the things that keeps photographers to Pentax.
Existing stock of K-mount lenses sells bodies in a way that they never could.
Existing stock of K-mount lenses reduces pressure on their design team to produce new lenses.
They could release a new all-electronic system - can you imagine how they would have to produce new lenses and sell the whole system????
Yes, Ricoh would prefer that we purchase a few new lenses, but the last window shows that they value the pile of old lenses they purchased.

Depends on whether you consider the K-mount itself special or not.

Without the history of K-mount lenses, Ricoh would have gotten much less when they purchased the camera assets of Pentax. By this posting, Ricoh has shown they recognize that, and that recognition should be very special to us.

I agree. Ricoh continue to do well to maintain Pentax heritage. Look what became of Minolta after Sony acquired those assets.

Pretty much this. I think the K-mount is pretty special myself and I'm glad Ricoh thinks so too.

IMHO, that and the D FA* 85/1.4 might be the more significant announcements. The new APS-C flagship is much overdue, but I expect those two lenses to light some fires among Pentax owners.

Perhaps the lenses will 'light a fire' among some users, but the users I have heard complaining have been waiting a long time for the "K-3ii replacement" and are tired of waiting. Personally, I purchased a KP a year ago, so I am completely happy. If Adam had sent me a new lens in October, or if he were to send me a new body when it becomes available, I would not complain, but I am completely happy with what I have, but those APS-C users have been looking at empty shelves for a long time, and I am very glad for them.

Just bought a KP for my daughter for Christmas because making her wait any longer for my K-3 II hand me down was taking too long.

TY for the support Sandy. Maybe it is worth it after all.

For the record, bought new (usually from B&H:
  • Optio A10 (birthday present for my daughter)
  • K10D
  • SMC DA40 Limited
  • FA50/1.4
  • SMC DA55-300
  • K-01 / DA40SX - pre-ordered
  • Q+02+01
  • K-3
  • FA77 Limited
  • K-1 - retail store
  • DFA100 Macro
  • DFA*50/1.4 - pre-ordered
  • SMC DA15/4
  • HD DA15/4
  • SMC DA21
  • HD DA21
  • SMC DA35
  • HD DA35
  • HD DA40
  • SMC DA70
  • HD DA70
  • DFA24-70/2.8
  • D FA*70-200
  • DFA 15-30
  • FA35/2
  • Theta (one or two - they’re cheap)
  • Half a dozen Q/02 kits that I gave as shower and wedding presents to children of our friends
Many of those have been sold off to trade up, or to acquire the most expensive old mechanical lenses I like to collect and use. Most of the vintage lenses I acquired by actual hard work trading on eBay. Until the last few years I wasn’t out-of-pocket on vintage gear, just on new gear.

So - I can’t say the next part here but perhaps I’ll accept humble apologies and minor indulgences by PM just the same.

OBTW. @Boriscleto
