Let's review line by line what he's saying.

Some of them, yes. All of them, no. Sony bought camera and lens factories from Konica Minolta as part of the 2006 deal and these factories are still up and running, manufacturing Sony cameras and lenses.

Err... no. Cosina manufacture the Otus, Milvus, Classic and ZM lenses, not the Loxia lenses nor the Batis lenses. You can check on their website: ZEISS Top

The Batis lenses are probably manufactured by Tamron. At least some of them, including the 18mm f/2.8 and 85mm f/1.8, were designed by Tamron, as proven by Tamron patents.

The jury is still out in the Loxia case.

The cine lenses, may be. At least they are deemed to be 'manufactured in Germany'. The Otus and Milvus lenses, definitely no: these are 'made in Japan' lenses manufactured by Cosina, see above.

May be, I have no indication pointing at this or at the contrary.

Having read and written all of this, my initial question still remains: which Sony lenses are made by Cosina, as per your initial statement?
Thanks, Mistral75, you've convinced me - Cosina make E-mount lenses for Zeiss, but not Sony!

Err... no. Zeiss Otus, Milvus and Classic are SLR lenses. Zeiss ZM are Leica M lenses.

Cosina definitely make E-mount lenses for themselves, using the Voigtländer brand in the framework of a brand licence agreement with Voigtländer GmbH, a subsidiary of the German United Imaging Group GmbH & Co. KG.

"Made in" is a merchandise mark and protected by regulations. If it says "Designed in Japan", you can be sure that it is manufactured outside Japan.

To get somewhat back to the subject, since this lens looks like it is built on the Tamron chassis, where would be a good source for the tripod mount? I checked B&H and figure there must be an Asian seller that would have it for a more reasonable price.

Interesting... and the author makes sense too. However, someone should introduce him to Pentax and Limited lenses.

The other problem with 'perfect' lenses is the huge size and cost.

Whats old is new.

But to go back to dizzying, panic inducing circular bokeh, heavy fringing, sharp in the center only, slow (or manual) focusing antiques? We have plenty of those available second hand and they all mount K right now if that is your thing. No waiting to be released required.

I think petapixel is in the market of saying everything and claiming nothing. Because they get paid by viewership and viewership happens by stirring the pot.
