I believe that the Tamron version comes without the foot, it's a pricy Extra. The Pentax version will come with one.

The RRP at launch of the Tamron 70-210mm f/4 Di VC USD was €799, €800 rounded.

If the rumoured RRP of the Pentax lens is confirmed, it will be 50% more expensive than the Tamron.
Which - as I recall - was about the difference in price between Tamron's old 28-75 f/2.8 in A-mount and the Sony-clothed version. I mention that merely as an interesting aside...

Indeed not surprising. When I break down the costs of things I purchase, things that I could assemble myself by purchasing components, I realize that most business operate in general with 50% gross margins. If Tamron makes that lens and supply it to Ricoh, and Ricoh is commercially responsible for the inventory, the selling, and the after sales repairs, why should Tamron drop their price to allow Ricoh to make money and if not , why should Ricoh sell the lens for 0% margin? And it's always a problem for the ratios in management accounting if you buy a product externally and resell it directly when the ratio of the outsourced product is compared to the ratios of product manufactured in house.

I bet they waited for until now because... a D-FA *85 and D-FA 70-210 f4 can replace a D-FA *70-200 f2.8, some folks may sell their D-FA*70-200 f2.8 used, to finance the purchase of a D-FA 70-210 and D-FA 85, which works if the D-FA 70-210 and D-FA 85 are released close to each other in time.
That would be too smart. I'm thinking of buying DFA*85 and am keeping my 70-200/2.8. I think that many will do the same. And perhaps even some will buy that 70-210 for the days whe they want that little smaller paggage.

Yes, i was waiting for this lens. The DFA 70-200 was too expensive for me. This one will do the job for me.

The Tamron is already weather sealed; the VC modification I would assume involves "fixing" the lens group in place and that's more or less it. I doubt firmware, coatings and aperture control took two years to develop (which is about as long as the lens has been on the roadmap, IIRC?)
That's correct. The HD Pentax-D FA 70-200mm f/4 appeared on the 27th of February, 2018 on the roadmap, with a '2019 Spring' tentative announcement date. That date was reiterated on the June 2018 roadmap and again on the January 2019 roadmap before being postponed to '2019 or later' one month later on the February 2019 CP+ roadmap, which is currently the latest one.

Tamron?
It looks a lot like my Tamron 70-210 f/4 in F mount.

It is a fantastic lens. I'm guessing it will have better coatings and potentially better QC? Either way I see it as a welcome addition to the K mount system.

Except I don't have to buy a D810 or D850 if I want to use that lens...

I just made this little overlay with the pictures provided in this thread. It is exactly the same size and every ring is in the exact same position.

No aperture lever can be seen at the bottom of the lens.

This is Lenstip's summary of the Tamron 70-210/4

Pros:

  • solid and sealed casing,
  • excellent image quality in the frame centre,
  • very good image quality on the edge of APS-C,
  • sensible image quality on the edge of full frame,
  • moderate longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • low distortion,
  • sensibly corrected astigmatism,
  • nice out-of-focus areas,
  • slight vignetting,
  • silent and more or less accurate autofocus,
  • efficient image stabilization,
  • good price quality ratio,
  • 5-year warranty period.
Cons:

  • lack of autofocus limiter,
  • lateral chromatic aberration corrected less efficiently than in the case of the rivals,
  • too weak performance against bright light,
  • modest standard accessory kit, worse than the one offered by brand name rivals.
Out of all lenses with similar parameters tested by us the Tamron 70–210 mm f/4 Di VC USD has fared the best so far. Even its strongest competitor, the Nikkor AF-S 70–200 mm f/4.0G ED VR, had to admit its defeat. That victory is even more impressive when you take into account the fact that the price of the Tamron is almost two times lower than the price of the Nikkor. The performance against bright light seems to be the most serious flaw of the tested lens. In order to defend it a bit I can only say that it was a category in which none of the rival lenses managed to perform well. In fact we have seen far weaker performances than that of the Tamron.
The summary can be only positive – you get a lens optically better than the products of Nikon or Canon and it is also noticeably cheaper.

Ricoh might fix some of the Cons, partially justifying the 50% premium...
