in this review, other 70-200 F4 lenses are compared to the * 70- 200 F2.8

Vs. Other 70-200mm Lenses

It is not our custom to compare reviewed lenses with equivalent offerings from other manufacturers in a standalone review. The lack of interchangeability makes such an exercise pointless since our reviews are targeted for current Pentax users.

However, the introduction of the K-1 Full Frame camera, along with a groups of professional lenses, has the potential to draw the attention of photographers not familiar with Pentax. Because of this, we have created a section of the current review dedicated to comparing the D FA 70-200mm F2.8 with other similar lenses.

This comparison will concentrate on features, specifications, lens design. Except for the Tamron lens, which is available new in Pentax mount and will be fully analyzed later in the review, no optical comparisons will be performed. . . .

does anyone know how the new Pentax compares one to one with the * 70-200 F2.8

New products are available fast, and at good prices (compared to same product in other EU countries). They don't quite keep up with the later price drops though...

this is what the forum says about it now:

HD Pentax-D FA 70-210mm F4 ED SDM WR
Wed January 22, 2020

Description: Introduced in 2020, the HD PENTAX-D FA 70-210mm F4 ED SDM WR
QuoteQuote:
is a much lighter option for a telephoto zoom than the HD Pentax-D FA* 70-200mm F2.8 zoom. The new lens weighs in at just 891 g (28.9 oz), whereas the D FA* F2.8 lens weighs in at 1755 g (61.9 oz). To bring the weight down the new lens is one stop slower than the D FA*.
While this lens is designed for the 24x36mm full-frame format it can also be used on cameras with the APS-C sensor format. The lens features rounded diaphragm blades for smooth Bokeh and is aimed at shooting sports, wild life and distant landscapes.

The key features are:
* Weather resistant (WR)
* HD coating
* SP coating of the front element
* Three ED lens elements
* Internal focusing and internal zoom
* Quick-shift
* Focus Range Limiter (0.95cm - 2m and 2m to infinity)

The lens has a built-in SDM type autofocus motor and no provision for screw drive autofocus. Furthermore the aperture is electronically controlled, so this lens can only be used with cameras that support the KAF4 mount (K-50 and newer). The lens is compatible with the HD Pentax-DA 1.4x AF Rear Converter when used for the APS-C format. The lens has no provision for a tripod mount.

The pricing of camera gear across formats, brands and continents is extremely confusing at the moment. Trying to figure out if a lens is priced correctly is near impossible.

Well, I know my 50-135 very well. And reading comments here, the 70-210 is in a different league. The 70-210 is way faster.

I also know very well the 50-135mm f2.8 lens and also the Tamron 70-210mm f4 lens and I'm confident that the Pentax 70-210mm f4 lens is better both optically and in terms of af speed.
