It will probably cost you at least 2000 euros, according to the Ricoh formula for doubling the prices of Tamron originals.

So according to your "logic" , it will be more expensive than DFA* 70-200 f2.8 .....

Do people even check what they write before hitting the post button? :/

At least you can use the same case as the 60-250, Pentax part number S100-200. Just comparing dimensions, the 60-250 is 81mm x 168mm, the 70-210 is 76mm x 176.5mm (less than a quarter of an inch smaller diameter and about 3/8" longer). The difference in weight might be noticeable, 221 grams is almost half a pound. Since the pricing is similar (at least with the launch price of the D FA 70-210), the main selling point for the 70-210 is autofocus, which is an issue for the type of photography this focal length range is particularly useful for and a relative weakness of the 60-250. I am curious if any more 60-250's will be built, or if it will disappear from the catalog once the supply chain is emptied. For those who want a higher level of image quality and are willing to pay for it, there is still the D FA * 70-200 f2.8. I was going to add "or buy a used 60-250," but I suspect current owners of the 60-250 are going to hang onto them.

I'm not super happy at this thing being a rebadge of Tamron, but without optical stabilizer and 1,5x the RRP... however, at least coatings should make a difference, as the original isn't great when shooting against light: Tamron 70-210 mm f/4 Di VC USD review - Ghosting and flares - LensTip.com
Well, any lens corrections should automatically be applied to a Pentax branded lens (as opposed to a 3rd party lens) so that is something better than just a re-badge assuming so do apply lens corrections. Anyway, weight saving compared to F2.8 lenses of similar focal lengths is great specially against the monster HD-FA.

The lens is now listed at Amazon.ca, price CAD $1,399.

Available February 14, 2020.

Coincidentally, Amazon is selling the Pentax DA* 60-250 today for the same price, CAD $1,399.

HD PENTAX-D FA 70-210mm F4 ED SDM WR - Ricoh

Steve
Well, that puts it about 25% less than what I can get the f/2.8 lens for.
That seems a little steep.
I've asked my local pusher for a quote. Hopefully it will come in for less than the dollar conversion makes it.

I suspect the f/2.8 and the f/4 will appeal to different markets. As for price, wait a few months.

I’m not sure if appealing to different markets is especially germane regarding pricing. As for waiting, if it comes in at nearly Can1.6k, I will definitely be waiting at least until late summer while I decide if the extra little bit for the extra stop of speed is worth it.

Like any company does when they release a new product, Ricoh/Pentax has set the price ($1,100 in the US) at the highest level they believe the market will accept. If the number of units sold come close to or exceeds their expectations, the price will remain there. When the number of units sold no longer meets their expectations we'll see a price drop/rebate to a level they feel will motivate people to purchase enough units to meet their expectations. My guess is we see a street price of $700-$800 later this coming fall. Probably around the holidays, but that's only an uneducated guess. If sales are good, there will not be a price reduction. It would not surprise me to learn that Pentax's cost on this lens is only in the area of $200-$300 per unit.

For me to seriously consider purchasing, since I only shoot with a crop frame camera, the image quality will have to be significantly better than that of the DA 55-300mm PLM by a large margin. Along the lines of or close to that of the DA* 60-250mm or DA* 300mm. Although, the constant f:4 aperture is enticing.

Even if the f/4 and f/2.8 were the same price, many would prefer the former because of weight and size. The price of oranges is not relevant if you want an apple.

They reversed engineered F and EF mounts too right along with Sigma and everyone else it seems.

Only Sony appears to have opened theirs up to licensing... unless you have other information.

On the German Ricoh product page (same as European / UK) there are some example pictures. Looks like Otis approves the new lens.

Kerrick James, the US Pentax Ambassador, has posted some pics on the Pentaxians FB group. To quote, "First impressions are of superb build quality and handling and exceptional image resolution, plus it is far lighter than my beloved beast, the HD PENTAX-D FA★ 70-200mm F2.8ED DC AW. This is going to be a fabulous hiking and travel lens, and the 67mm size is most welcome as well. You're going to love this lens. I already do. Price is $1100 USD..."

I lugged the DFA70-200 for shooting landscape, as long as I don't hike away from the car, it's fine, otherwise no way. To tell the tuth, a few weeks back I was looking at a getting a Nikon body to get this lens (+ the Tamron SP primes). But now that that 70-210 exists for K cameras, it's hard to resist, because even at 1000 euros it is still a lot cheaper than buying a D810 and the Tamron lens. Ricoh guys nailed it with that lens. P.S. I'd still like the price to go a little under 1000 euros (978 or 879), i'd feel less gilty, since I already have more lenses than I really need. But my D-FA 28-105 feels lonely, since she is the only small slow lens of the bunch, if I'd get her the 70-210 both could have a chit-chat in the camera bag when not working ("Did you see what I saw yesterday?", "Heck no I couldn't, it was dark, my owner kept me in the camera bag all day long").
