€1,199 actually, €1,200 rounded.

The RRP at launch of the Tamron 70-210mm f/4 Di VC USD was €799, €800 rounded.

If the rumoured RRP of the Pentax lens is confirmed, it will be 50% more expensive than the Tamron.
1050€ launch prize of the Tamron in Europe.

Shock
I own the DFA *70-200 which does have a tripod foot with it. The reality is that 70-200 lenses aren't typically shot from a tripod. Not that they can't be. Of course, they can, but typically you are using them for portraits/snap shots/event photography where you would likely be shooting hand held. I took the lens foot off my DFA *70-200 and stuck it in the box and haven't looked at it since. Obviously if you are shooting wildlife with poor light (seems a bit short for that) or landscapes then you might still use it, but those don't seem the most obvious applications for a lens like this.

(multiple people have mentioned the lack of a tripod foot with regard to this lens and I don't think it is a big deal).

Indeed. I have the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 USD in A-mount, and my tripod mount is also in the box. In fact, the lens is more convenient to operate with the tripod mount removed...

Even if the f/4 and f/2.8 were the same price, many would prefer the former because of weight and size. The price of oranges is not relevant if you want an apple.
The price of oranges becomes very relevant if the price is set at userous levels.
The point you are trying to make is not especially reality based.

I leave the tripod foot on - rotated to the top of the lens it makes a good carry handle, although I am sad to say that mine hasn't seen many photons since getting the DFA150-450. Price wise I only paid £100 more for the DFA*70-200 than the current launch price of the DFA70-210. So if I were to get an attack of LBA I would be waiting for a much better price than that.

The few times I did shoot some soccer games I used a monopod with the 70-200 f2.8 (not Pentax though). I wouls expect monopods to be a more often seen use case than tripods on standard tele lenses.

The point is really that Pentax always sets release prices as high as they think the market will bear. It lets them get the "early money" for those who can't bear to wait for a new lens till the price has dropped a bit and further it lets them claim that the lens is heavily discounted when it eventually sells for 20 percent off list price at 900 dollars.

Retailers do this all the time with clothing. The shirts I buy always are discounted 25 percent, but then I think the MSRP on them is just set 25 percent higher than what the brands actually expect to get.

I would think the DFA *70-200 (which does come with a tripod foot included) would be a better choice for sporting events due to the stop faster aperture.

It's true too that the Canon and Nikon own make 70-200/4 lenses are regularly used without a tripod collar even if one is available (which I'm not sure about). Admittedly the L-series Canon is a fair bit lighter, but this one is comparable to the Nikon in weight.
Only ~40 g lighter for the IS version (780 g?). The Canon with hood weighs as much as the Pentax without, give or take.

The non-IS is 700 g though, which is what I was personally hoping for.

Strangely enough, I also use the tripod mount on my 60-250 - but only as a carry handle

For Tamron, tripod colar foot is sa small that not realy a loss here on that function This is main reason why my Tammy 70-200/2.8 colar stays at home 95% of time I use that lens.
