Actually, I would trade my 150-450 in on a 500/5.6 but a 600/5.6 would be even better.

Although a 600 would be nice on occasion, the 150-450 is just too useful and too good optically to ever trade in. I'm sure I would not get nearly as much use from a 600.

I wonder if this set of "ten more lenses" mentioned by Asahi Man included silver editions of star glass

Depens on the time-span for this prediction.
Take 10 years and the answer might be : no

I'm under the impression that (at least some) lenses that are painted silver are prone to the silver colour coming off due to scrapes, etc. Is this correct?

It is correct for the FA* lenses but not the FA Limiteds.

The Limiteds are brushed aluminum right? It's a completely different method if that's the case.

Yeah, I understood the Limiteds to NOT be just paint. My silver 43mm is holding up well, but I've seen FA and/or FA* in pretty bad shape. As pretty as the new silver lenses appear to be, I cannot imagine myself buying one, knowing that the "prettiness" is likely to be eroded.

Exactly, as some as Pentax offers the alternative lens, the other will not sell anymore. 5.6/600 kills the 560, 5.6/500 competes against the 150-450 zoom. Assuming we talk about standard lenses, not a modular setup, diffractive optics or something completely different.

93% of my photos with the 150-450 were taken at 450mm, I would love the extra reach of a DFA600/5.6 or even a DFA500/5.6 given the original premise by zapp of a prime lens priced similarly to the zoom (and assuming reasonably compact compared to the existing DA560).

I bought a D500 purely to use the Sigma 500mm f/4 Sport and 1.4x / 2x converters but I sold it all last month as the lens barely left the house. I also had a Pentax FA* 250-600mm f/5.6 and that went for the same reason.

I obviously lack the commitment for big lens photography

If they could offer the above-mentioned lenses for a similar price to the DFA150-450, I think you are right.

In my case I am hankering for a telephoto prime but a few things hold me back from the DA560, being (in no particular order), size, price, possibility of lens separation (although the DFA150-450 appears to not be immune to that too ). I have to admit, the Nikon 500PF looks mighty attractive.

Well,who has kept count?

Ooku has indicated that there will be a few more Pentax goodies in the next part of the month.

Care to guess?

DFA 21mm ?

16-50mm f2.8?

Something else?

I purchased a used Silver FA 28-135mm from a member who said that it was once his primary lens;
of course I don’t know what it looked like when it was new, but it doesn’t look bad - or eroded - now that I have used it for several years .... certainly, nothing that would cause me not to purchase another Silver lens.
I purchased a Silver and Black “Super Program”; after twelve years of use, I also chose Silver and Black when I purchased a KP with the hope that it would look as good after twelve years.
