Thanks for the post. While it probably won’t be a huge upgrade keeping the line refreshed is a good thing.

So, a firmware update sold as a new camera?

A good way to reset the price curve p = f(t), t being the time elapsed berween launch and purchase.

to justify a new model number. Are there any unaccounted for radio registrations filed by Ricoh? The WG-60 didn't have any wireless capabilities, perhaps a wi-fi transmitter to replace the mini HDMI port?

Canon did that for decades with their low end (d)SLRs.

Hey. It comes in a new colour too. Actually, even the wg50 was much the same. This category of camera seems to be given up by the makers. Pentax do many odd experiments, I would like them to make a fixed lens action cam with more focus on iq (and why not tethering to your phone). But it there's only me ...

These WG cameras come from an ODM, may be the same as the one providing Olympus with their Though cameras.

Yes, I know. It just adds some revenue without much effort. And market studies probably doesn't suggest much of a market for making something better. I guess, when they were still messing around with the q format, they could have used the internals for an action cam. I have a GoPro, I just would prefer something a little more substantial and camera-like.

The WG series was marketed as a GoPro alternative when it was still branded Pentax, there is an accessory lineup for attaching your WG camera to just about anything, including tent pegs.

The annoying thing is that the Olympus cameras generally have better features... I guess Olympus pays a bit more for theirs...

I guess it could be good news that they’ve sold all of the last batch and it was time to order another pallet of compacts...

They could just rev the name whenever they run a batch and update the firmware...

I second that. Olympus added it to their TG series a few models back, and I wouldn't have thought it would be terribly hard to implement, possibly just a change to firmware to support it.
