Ultimately it was the price difference between the two, used, when I made the switch. Stepping back "down" to the mark 1 freed up more money to throw towards the 150-450 that I bought at roughly the same time.

Both are excellent bodies but if I had to do it again? I'd take a lightly used mk1 over a new mk2, assuming a significant savings could be found.
Sensible observations. I always said the best thing the K-1ii does is reduce the price and availability of the K-1

Money was my main reasoning, I found a very lightly used (under 2000 shots) mk1 for ~900€ and any Mk2 would have been at least 3-400€ more.

And I got 10% credit back from Ebay, AND it came with a 128GB card. I was humming happily for days.

In the US Amazon still has them for 1500 (handled by a third party company).

This is bad news. Ricoh could offer a K1 II to K1 I downgrade service (replace motherboard) for customers who don't want the accelerator chip.

Seeing as the sensor is basically ISO-invariant, couldn't you shoot at ISO 100 and push in post?

FWIW I would upgrade my K-1 to Mk2 in a second if it were free.

That doesn't work because data in raw files are no the same when shot at ISO100 or higher ISO. That was how a composite stack average of underexposed exposures produced banding, and another stack of added underexposed exposures doesn't show banding, although the total amount of exposure was the same in both cases. The raw file data is not the sensor data, explains why it's not the same to correct exposure in post versus using higher ISO.

Ridiculous isn't mandatory IMO.

Some shops in Japan still carry the K-1. Fujiya in Nakano (tokyo) interestingly has it for nearly the same price as the special edition KP (~133.000 yen). The K-1 mark 2 is about 211k yen in the same shop.

At least as of yesterday Amazon still had new original model K-1's, $1499.00. They had one "used" for $1300-something
