K20D Quality fooled an Art Director

The other day I presented my book to an art director at a major agency. He honed in on a couple of shots in my portfolio that were taken with the K20D and were original prints from one of my published works for a Fashion Magazine here in Paris. My book is very large and this specific image was a double page spread or just a bit under an A2 format. He looks at it and says, "nice to see you are shooting with MF". I asked what do you mean, film or digital MF? He said "Digital of course. What was it? A 39 MP back?"...I said "no, it was shot with a Pentax Digital camera, called the K20D." He said, "I didn't know Pentax have a pro digital camera. Do you mean the 645 with a digital back?"

I said "No it is about a 15 megapixel DSLR format camera that costs about 1000 euros..."
His jaw almost hit the floor. He started scrutinizing the image and said "C'est pas vrai"(that can't be true). "Yes it is" and he went on and on mumbling out loud. He must have observed the image for another couple of minutes and then said, "What ever works, what ever works..."

Why did you have to post this? Now I really have to weigh getting a K20D now to replace my K10D (I AM shooting a wedding in June...) or just wait until next summer for the K30D or whatever.

Well played Ben... I can see why he was confused - it's a pretty amazing shot.

If this is the one I'm thinking of, did you tell him it was shot with the DA 40, and how much that costs...

What company did you use for printing? And what lens did you use? :-)
That's an awesome shot.

The print for the book was my Epson Photo 1290S. I used the Pentax 40mm LTD lens at f6.3 at 1/8th of a second.

Not even a "full frame" camera, phew...

Darn that gets me one step further from my money and one step closer to replacing K10D with K20D

I had a similar surprise when bands/magazines chose my K10 pics over D3's and 1d's...
As long as you're happy, and know how to use you camera!
Congrats Ben

Reinforces the "for all practical purposes, 90% of people have enough image info w/ 6Mpix sensors" rule

We're at the point where we have enough information to print images at fairly large sizes finally...though I'm sure Ben's large poster/wall sizes could always use more resolution
