K-New: still kickin'...

In short: Ricoh keep on moving forward, albeit slowly, and working hard towards commercialising the KNEW. Since CP+ was cancelled they are going to gradually release more info via some channels apparently still to be decided -they are searching for the best way(s) to do so.

It's got to be hard to announce a new product in such a bizarre economic environment.

While I miss (some of) the rumor mongering, I totally understand why much of it has vanished...

A few more important things on our minds right now...

Is @Adam still planing an interview??
Honestly I would hate for him to fly across the Pacific, but he would make a perfect conduit for "letting info slip".

I agree. Whilst it would be nice to see the new camera released at some point, right now I'm more concerned as to whether all of us will be around to see it happen

Well, yes, a little more time would be good from several points of view. My bank balance has to recover a bit after purchasing a D FA70-210, for a start. Mind you, maintaining a suitable distance from others is a bit easier if you’re a semi-retired introvert, out in Nature taking photos.

Or if anyone will be able to afford it.

Or if Pentax will even be able to make it and ship it out of China or SE Asia anytime soon, with factory shutdowns, border closures, transport disruptions etc ...

Videoconferencing can solve that problem.

This^^^^^
Businesses are shutting down all over the globe. Logistics, manufacturing etc. It's hard to build and distribute a product (actually, just not possible) when you can't get the parts you need and you can't ship out the final product.

Yes, the interview is still planned. I'm definitely not going to travel, however! Albert over in Tokyo helps us coordinate all reporting from Japan.

Now, if they could somehow add an antiviral shield to the camera, I think, it could be the best selling Pentax of all time (regardless of cost).

I will not get excited before Ricoh announces a camera that will shake up the photographing world. But for now, I have an amazing camera and I am very content with what it produces image wise. I am afraid that it will end just like the novel "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. In tears

Always a wise idea with any brand. That way frustration and disappointment surely lie... and even when something is announced, it won't satisfy everyone's personal priorities.

Ah. Doubly wise not to get excited about that. I'd hope for an incremental update, on the basis that it will certainly be that at the very least, but possibly - just possibly - much more. Setting cautious and reasonable expectations is likely to minimise potential disappointment.

Yep. We're all fortunate these days to have cameras that are so capable, most amateur photographers (and a good number of professionals) don't fully utilise their capabilities. Best to focus on what we have now, as you suggest.

With respect, negative comments like that - readable by not just the PentaxForums community, but anyone searching the web and considering buying Pentax - certainly don't help the brand. The more folks hint at impending doom, the more likely it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy
