The HD Pentax-D FA 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW's package weighs 1.56kg whilst the lens itself weighs 953g. That would indeed put the HD Pentax-D FA 85mm f/1.4 ED SDM AW between 1.1 and 1.2kg.

Remember that the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art weighs 1,130g (Sigma SA mount).

The RRP at launch of the HD Pentax-D FA 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW was $/€/£1,199 therefore, even though £2,099.59 is theoretically equivalent to €2,345 and $2,129, there is a possibility that the RRP at launch of the HD Pentax-D FA 85mm f/1.4 ED SDM AW be $/€/£2,099.
Yep, I calculated a bit over half a kilo for the packaging. About the RRP there was a bit of hyperbole involved, but it's still... well, a bunch of money .

£2,099, that should be about 1049.5 euro in continental Europe... right? right?

Perhaps I'll put off buying this lens until next year since it's priced a bit higher than I would have expected. I was prepared for $1500 US, but not $2K. I already decided to pass on an FA85 1.4 and use my 77 at least until this new Pentax lens ships. The FA77 is a fine lens.

I got mine a month ago and I'm very happy about it. Incidentally, it also didn't cost more than a month of salary; I appreciate not having my budget cratered without remorse or concern .

The great news is that samples will start flowing in very soon!

Using the new D FA 70-210mm and the D FA 50/1.5 as reference points at UK Amazon, a price of GBP 2099 suggests a price in Canada of CAD $2,500-2,600.

The product description at the Amazon site is quite enticing. I noted the statement "Anticipating the further advancement of SLR camera bodies in the future"

It also reduces distortion to nearly zero at a focusing distance of four meters to deliver well-defined, distortion-free images over the entire focusing range, from the minimum focusing distance to infinity.

However, I don't understand the above statement in the description. "Nearly zero" distortion at 4 m, but zero distortion across the range?

I know, I'm just being picky, but they [Ricoh] could have sharpened the text. Maybe I'm missing something.

$2099 CAD is my Guess, 1899 USD. A bit steep for me at this time.

Me too, but I'm not going to let that stop me.
Bring it on. I will be the only person on my block to have one.
Heck, I will probably be the only person in Saskatchewan to have one.

I think this stuff gets run through a Japanese to English translation program with the English speaker on the Japanese side and a Japanese speaker on the English side.

Yep.

Sticking to my plan to wait a few months. I want the actual balance in my PayPal account before I order, K-new and DFA21/2.4 Limited Siren Song are also pulling me.

Manitoba too.

A few months ago I bought my most expensive lens...ever. The 24-70 F 2.8 was on sale at Henry's for $ 1200 CAD, regular price I think is around $ 1500.
My first car cost me $ 600 CAD. But that was in 1967.

I hope the price is not correct, just a dummy on Amazon. If it is EUR $2100, it will scare people away.

Over 2000 gbp means it's the most expensive lens with such focal length/max aperture combination on the market. Canon RF 85mm 1.2 is only 10% more expensive.

Quo vadis, Pentax?
