Of course. The question is always if Pentax is rebadging a Tamron, Tokina, or Sigma lens. Although why Sigma is ever mentioned is beyond me. Pentax has never had a good working relationship with Sigma and wouldn't rebadge a lens of theirs in a million years. And with regard to Tokina, the relationship has been generally been the other way, with Tokina licensing Pentax lens designs, not Pentax licensing Tokina's designs (the only exception being the DA 12-24).

For whatever reason some people want Pentax to fail. At the beginning of DP Review's article on the DFA *50 they made the comment that they were interested in looking at this lens because it might be the last SLR lens from Pentax they ever saw. I think they ended up editing out that comment, but the fact remains that MILC folks want SLRs to go away and Pentax continuing to produce new SLR gear is a sore point for them.

Because Pentax has so far refused to go with the herd mentality of MILC IS THE FUTURE MILC IS THE FUTURE, which hurts people's feelings apparently. The worst part is that mirrorless cameras are not the end-all-be-all. I agree that there are things they bring to the table that are great for many people, but in the end it will be economic reasons only, not technical.

At least SLRs had a very definitive advantage over rangefinders when it comes to telephoto (and even then RFs weren't strictly "worse" cameras).

Good that they're using decent photographers these days- it took a while to get through that people don't look at boring photos long enough to notice how good optically the lens is

I got that magazine in the post yesterday too. There are six portraits taken with the new lens.

I think that class of lens is always good, but I did like what I saw. They had some backlit portraits and it handled that situation very well. The bokeh is smooth as you’d expect.

More importantly, the lens is the real deal. It exists and it is good.
I really like how this photos came out. Can you pass us a translation of that article?

You pretty much nailed it right there. They would have love if Tamron would have something like this, so that rebadge thing would be possible to pull out, but no luck there. So now they are desperate... how to get to mock on this one. They obviously have too much time at their hands.

Tribalism at its finest. I have thought for years that Sony is paying people to post pro milc/ anti ovf stuff on forums.

AFAIK DPreview said that they were interested in reviewing D FA* 50 because they thought it could be the last standard lens design made for SLRs, not because they believed it could be Pentax' last breath...

They don't even have to do that, we know some people who sing us the praises of Sony cameras without knowing what exposure is... Gearheads love the spec-sheet-oriented, "high-tech" Sony things.

So, you're implying that this lens won't have 'animal eye AF'? We are doomed.

While I will probably get the DFA*85/1.4 and I also have the FA*85/1.4 and will likely not also not part with it because it has a functional manual aperture for the Sony mirrorless bodies.

The kind of lens might be so sharp, Ricoh would have to ponder whether they had a "hazard caution" label on the lens box to prevent customers cutting fingers when handling the lens or cutting eyes when zooming into images.

Interesting enough, the only non-Pentax K-mount lenses I have are Sigma {since I discovered zoom, and most photos I take are at f/5.6 or narrower, I have very few lenses}

Sigma makes nice lenses. It's just that they have never worked with Pentax. Tamron has a long history of making different lenses for Pentax and Tokina has licensed a number of lens designs from Pentax (most recently the 50mm Opera), but never any relationship with Sigma as far as I know.
