There's not much evidence that HD coating reduce pf. By the looks of it, not scientific, it seems to make the issue more visible perhaps because light transmission is enhanced also for the problematic wavelenghts?

It wouldn't directly turn me off (the price tag has so far done that, though), but the thing is that my good old M-50/1.7 is *always* in my bag, because why not? I'd think twice before putting the heavy DFA*50 in the bag for a stroll in the neighborhood if I didn't think there was a fair chance I'd use it.

If I had the D-FA *50 I would probably buy another K-1 so it never had to be taken off.

This would make the 50/1.4 sit exactly in the middle between a 28/1.4 and the 85/1.4 in terms of angle of view.

So 28mm would make a lot of sense, however, I think I'd prefer a 24mm over a 28mm.
I have been shooting with the FA28/2.8 for 3 years now and haven't removed it from camera alsmost all this time. It is wide enough to be wide and yet does not overly distort the view (I photograph a lot of street crowds and do not want the corners to pull faces). And, since 28 is quite old, I'd love to have a new one, but perhaps just 1.8 or 2, I don't really need the full monty. The FA size is fantastic for street

Indeed, it's very good street lens. I had F version and replaced it with HD FA 35/2 recently, which is IMO even better. I would love to have a choice of revamped FA 20/2.8 for street photos.

I've already resolved that if I buy a K-1, I'm getting a DFA*50 to pair with it.

I suppose the thing is it is a lot easier to crop 24mm to 28mm field of view than the reverse.

So, is the new 85 going to render closer to the FA*85 or the A*85? I believe the lineage is the FA*85 is a Jun Hirakawa design similar to the DA*55 with an emphasis on portraits versus the A* which is similar to the 77 and more of an all around lens.

I suspect it will very similar to the D-FA* 50... I don't have either of the the 85s, but I think the D-FA* 50 gives the beautiful rendering of the FA 77 Ltd, but with a corner to corner performance from F1.4 that has few peers: in focus = sharp / not in focus = smooth

Hi, I hope no, the FA is a small anvil, I think the new 85 will be just a little bigger than the 88.

Weeeeell... the D FA* 85 is 15 mm wider and 17 mm longer than the D FA* 50. And with an 82 mm front element I think that "under 1 kg" will already count as wishful thinking.

Hopefully he doesn't mean this 88

Ah, the Flugabwehrkanone 36. When the Germans decided to use it for portraits instead of using it to catch BiFs, they quickly realized that the AF of the 88 was very fast and accurate even if the subject was at like 2 or 3 km, much to the displeasure of their Russian models.

If I had the DFA* 50, I would buy a wheelbarrow to carry it ..... fat chance of that.
