My pusher said sometime in May. She didn't say what year though.

I do hope to read this soon:

Wheatfield:
"I preordered mine in May, it's already been delivered. It's fantastic, and not even expensive! They made a huge batch at once, to prevent slow delivery. Get one, you won't regret it!."

I'll do my best for you. My pusher has been instructed to order one as soon as it is available for order. Historically, I get equipment a few days prior to the release date and am embargoed to not show pictures from it until the official release.

I will say that I am going to be saving for this lens as well. Looks like a winner and a focal length that I am really looking forward to.

My FA* 85/1.4 doesn't owe me much, but I reckon it will be getting its eviction notice pretty soon.

If it's on par with the new 50/1.4, I will be very hard pressed to justify keeping my A*85.1.4 and my 77. I've already decided my M85/2 has no place in my heart anymore.

If the D FA*85/1.4 is as good as everyone says and really beats the FA*85/1.4, I still may have to keep my FA*85 for a MILC in my future for the full aperture controls.

May only has about 2.5 weeks to go. Let's wait.

OK.
Preorders sometime in May, and shipment around mid-june seem quite realistic.

Agreed. When the D FA* 50/1.4 reared it's tiny little self, I started my inquiry about it on June 28, 2018, it was embargoed at the time, and I took delivery of it mid July (I was embargoed from talking much about it as I took delivery prior to the release date).
The D FA 70-210, I initiated a dialogue with my pusher on Jan 22 of this year, and took delivery on Feb 11th, the day after it arrived in stock.
In my region, the lead time from initial release to actual hands on delivery seems to be about 3 weeks, and while my contact just said May, I'm hopeful it will arrive fairly soon.
Asahi man, someone who I respect to have good information, has indicated the lens is now in full production, albeit the production run is rather limited in volume. If this is the case, we could see shipments starting in a week or so with an official release late next week and deliveries to end users like you and me as early as the first week of June.
Colour me optimistic.....

They are being smart about this. In the current circumstances a small amount of good products will yield best results, since those who have waited for such a luxury lens can wait a little bit longer without issues.

An expensive prime lens for an ILC these days is nothing for Joe the plumber as impulse buy anyhow.

The one thing they must get right is the quality of the first ones to hit the shelves. And they had no issue with the DFA* 50, so we can be optimistic.

Well, "it's back ordered" always sounds better than "we have a lot of stock", doesn't it?

Hopefully the wait is over soon for you guys (I just got a 77, I'm in no rush to get this behemoth... but I'm looking forward to the images )
