I buy top of the line glass just to sneakily mount it on my friends cameras and walk away. I'm a real joker that way.

To be fair, when comparing to other brands, you should take their latest designs, eg. the Canon RF85mm f1.2:

quote DPReview: "As we've seen throughout all of our samples, longitudinal chromatic aberration, which typically shows up as purple and green fringing in front of, and behind, the focal plane is simply not an issue at all with the RF 85L"
I'm all for fairness.
However, the Pentax will be compared with the lenses mentioned by beholder3 - as those are cheaper (use the lowest street prices) and lighter.

And, speaking of the f/1.2 monsters, aren't we better off with Pentax going for a more reasonable f/1.4?

A lot to absorb in all that info. Ricoh/Pentax obviously think it will be a big hit.

The Canon 1.2 is interesting as it has more normal glass than most of the competition. The images I've seen look beautiful as well.

That's one absolute minimal amount of longitudinal CA.

And I spotted someone wearing a DPsomething t-shirt painting a fence half purple, half bright green.

Correction - it's now £1999
In my experience, srs have alays launched stuff at full price, but good reductions come later

At this rate of price reduction I might be able to afford it after lunch

It's enough to take it down 10% on DPR hen combined with the name on it, which in itself takes it from gold to silver

Honestly Pentaxians were wrong about that one. Its pretty obvious when you've seen a few more samples.

HD PENTAX-D FA?85mmF1.4ED SDM AW

£2k for the lens, seems pretty expensive to me. Sony 85mm F1.4 G Master is “only” £1499 at the moment.

DP Review focused on that one thing and shot a lot of back lit shots to try to bring it out -- way more than they did with competitors lenses. And most of the competition had some level of loCA as well -- it's just that if you don't shoot the right images, you don't see it.
