HD Pentax-D FA★ 85mm f/1.4 SDM AW

This lens was first shown almost a year ago in Japan. Any further ideas on price or when it will be available for the rest of us?

Nice. Probably only five copies sold till the economy recovers, but a nice lens to look forward to.

very exciting news!

Here's from Google Translate:

RICOH IMAGING is pleased to announce the development of another lens from the D FA ★ generation from the PENTAX “Star Series”.
The presentation of a prototype of the new HD PENTAX-D FA ★ 85mm F1.4 SDM AW lens was originally planned for this year's CP +, which was to take place in Yokohama at the end of February. Since the fair was canceled due to the corona virus (COVID-19), the development of this new lens is now announced in this way.

With the HD PENTAX-D FA ★ 50mm F1.4 SDM AW, RICOH IMAGING presented the first lens with a fixed focal length of the new D FA ★ generation of the PENTAX "star series" in summer 2018. The "Stern series" stands for the highest quality standard of the PENTAX lens series. The D FA ★ series is characterized by the following parameters:

Best possible image quality with uniform sharpness from the center to the edges
Large aperture with a particularly expressive image effect
High quality workmanship and materials with high robustness and easy handling

The D FA ★ 50mm quickly became one of the most popular lenses for the PENTAX 35mm system, so that more and more PENTAX photographers want to expand this series of top lenses with a fixed focal length.

With the HD PENTAX-D FA ★ 85mm F1.4 SDM AW, another lens from this series of high-performance lenses is now under development and the waiting will soon come to an end.

In line with the product strategy "particularly high image quality without compromise", this new lens is characterized by the following features:

Three optical Super ED glass elements (extra-low dispersion) effectively compensate for chromatic aberrations and produce brilliant, high-contrast images even with the aperture open.
An aspherical lens ensures high imaging performance with good correction of spherical aberration, coma and field curvature.
The high-torque ultrasonic ring motor with Supersonic direct drive (SDM) enables a high focusing speed and smooth operation.
The lens, developed as an AW model (All Weather), has a reliable weatherproof construction that prevents water and dust from entering the lens interior.
The product launch is planned for 2020.
Further information, including the price, cannot be given at the moment.

90% of the news is obvious... the dimensions are new, almost the same as for Sigma Art. I will get one when available. My 50 is happy to get a brother.

Me too, the release of the DFA* 50 1.4 turned out to be a great time to get my DA*55 1.4.

I'm not interested in this lens but it looks like it should be another winner, I hope. Hopefully it'll give the Sigma 85 Art a run for it's money.

Thrilled for this one to hit the streets! Could be an interesting shootout with the Sigma EX DG 85 and the Rokinon/Samyang... both of which are phenomenal in their own regard.
