As far as I know, the original release date of DFA21 has not changed.

According to the big 4-way reveal last May, it was planned for 2021. I expect it this year, unless we hear otherwise from Ricoh. I anticipate that it will be the best-selling lens release from Pentax in years.

I suspect that benchmark was already set by the DFA* 50, but here's hoping it sells well!

And clearly those who bought it are happy... haven't seen many used copies!

Count me as happy . Of course, I happen to really like fast standard lenses, so this one may as well have been designed with me in mind.
Come to think of it, I have been a one man profit center for Pentax for something like 35 years, so maybe the D FA*50/1.4 is my reward....

If I didn't use my gear mostly outdoors, I'd seriously consider it, the render is astonishingly good. But carrying such a brick over the FA 43 would leave me suffering more than happy I'm afraid
I hope the 21 is under half a kilo... as long as it works well for closeups and architecture I'll be a happy camper.

I had to come up with a solution for that. It turns out there is nothing like a Sherpa.

I wouldn't that with mine, he's much too young. A with a whippet anyway it sounds risky to me.

It's great. He was able to carry something like 20 pounds of gear with no problems, and was all business when doing it. One time I was changing lenses in the field, using his back as a place to put stuff. I forgot to put the 77LTD in the saddle pack after changing it. It was probably five minutes before I realized the lens was still sitting there. The dog just hadn't moved a muscle.

He's long gone now, the new dog is a bit of a scatter wit, and is being something more of a challenge to bring up to speed regarding the needs of the business.

Great stuff! Back in the day my brother and his 3 dogs used to help me get my 4x5 into the backcountry -- all 3 dogs had their own packs and carried gear for us. The goldens were great but the border collie had a million maneuvers for dumping her pack. Our first trip out she was carrying the fifteen year old single malt scotch and some baileys and managed to ditch her pack. Never did find it. After that she only carried her own food and dog treats and learned real fast not to ditch that one ... Brings back fun memories ...

I have enough trouble sometimes convincing people that my Rottweiler is a required service dog. I can only imaging trying that with a horse.
It would be fun though.

I have the DFA*50, and I love it, but it is big and heavy and expensive; not for everyone. And besides, most people already have a decent 50 or similar. A more compact FF 21 on the other hand might fill a gap for a lot of Pentaxians.
