That is a temporary thing I suspect. An updated K1 class camera is pretty much guaranteed to have better high ISO performance than the K3III.

Nope. I'm right and you are wrong. This as it has always been, and how it will always be.

I thought long and hard about an offer for a used KP with the 20-40 for € 1,000. Attractive as it was, I heard that the zoom is not that strong at the 40mm end. In fact, rather weak. Users do not report this, at least not in a dominant way.
But user reviews tend to be fuelled by psychological motives anyway.
I wanted that KP but not so much that lens, and passed.
You were reliably misinformed.

Check out the Lenstip/Optyczne reviews of the DA 40 vs. the DA 20-40. The zoom at 40mm is best at f/5.6 - f/8, also the sweet spot on the DA 40 Ltd. And both center and edge, the zoom scores better than the prime.

There have been some bad copies of the zoom out there, but I've been very pleased with my copy, which has been earning its keep as my main APS-C lens for more than seven years now.

On APSC and me too thinking about 20-40 vs the new 21.
Love to pair DA21 and DA*55 and looking for a 20mm WR lens. 20-40 make sense but the new 21 ... I just want it!

For low light action shots I like a bit of noise making for grittier images.
Maybe you can persuade Ricoh to put a decelerator in your K3-III!

I'm not sure this lens makes sense for apsc when there are already two great apsc limited options.

It makes sense if one currently has "APS-C" but is planning to get "FF" someday.

We might get a revisit of the 40/43 wars of long ago except in 21mm form.

The possibility of a bad copy did occur to me, because most users are really pleased - but the in-depth review at Pentaxforums wasn't.
Anyway, once you hesitate, there's more than a reason to it.

If its faster and has improved rendering then of course it can be justified. Its also a nice for people running both FF and APS-C.

I think also that faster thing, but DA21 limited has problems with edges(as I have let my self understand. DFA21 should not have any problems on aps-c.

That's what I thought. On the other hand, the DA limiteds have a very nice small profile on camera.
