Ah, one of my parents' favourites. Spanish reds do seem to be good, I'm told .

Especially that cute little engineer in the bottom left corner.
Dear God, I'm embarrassing myself. At least I'm a happy drunk.
Hugs and kisses to everyone. Stay safe, and if you have to drink, do it in the safety of your home. Don't go out to a crowded bar.
The engineer in the bottom left is adorable, and I love him for giving us a 21mm Limited lens with weather sealing and focus on superb rendering. Today is a joyful day for Pentaxians!

This. Is. Awesome. I can barely wait.

A full frame, weather sealed, ultra-wide prime with silent AF. And Limited sensibilities.

Job done. Bravo, Pentax!
Thanks Sandy - this made me laugh out loud

I agree totally with your sentiments but Job done - maybe in 18 months time

DFA 21mm f/1.8 Limited...Dammit Pentax, TAKE MY MONEY!

Its not everyday you see a drunk wheatfield wax lyrical over a lens. Considering it is my 10,021thpost.I'll join him, let the tequila* flow!

It also appears to have the same jewel like lens mounting index the current FA limited lenses have, I hope they have a pouch for it.

Now all we need is something north of the FA77, who's ready for a 120mm f/1.8 ED Limited?

If Pentax keeps this up their optical designers will be able to do this:

It's f/4 or brighter since there is a '4' mark on the depth-of-field scale.
So does my FA31, SMC 50mm f/1.2 and FA77, that leaves a wide range of possible aperture values, the front element appears to be bigger than the SMC-K 24mm f/2.8. It's safe to say the widest aperture will be around f/2. I'll admit I find the absence of Aspherics in the optical design to be a trifle worrisome.

* I have a bottle of el jimador reposado tequila which is aged for a year or so... I'll rim my glass with blood orange and chilli flakes, fresh cracked black pepper and rock salt.

mmm... I have a 20/3.5.... which will be half the size/weight of this 21.... so it might be safe. More than likely.... after a time it will probally just have a big brother.

I think the 21 is about the most "no brainer" lens they could come up with (after the 50).... everyones limited collection is now one lens short..... most will succumb eventuately.

Yep. And given the other contenders that is quite a big steal.

What's interesting is the way they said "this is the first D FA lens from the limited series" - it's crazy open for interpretation, still - an interesting choice of words

I'm surprised by this new lens, it is very appealing and a likely buy for me.

If this lens was faster than f4, I’d expect the Depth of Field scale to reflect that, although the graduation marks are getting rather crowded toward the centre, so perhaps it is an f2.8 lens. I’m not expecting it to be faster than f2.8, based on the apparent size of the front element, which looks similar to that of my FA20/2.8. I’m glad it doesn’t have the dinnerplate hood that the FA20 has, though. Come to that, the FA20’s DoF scale doesn’t go to f2.8 either (at least, there’s a mark below f8 that I take to indicate f4) so I imagine we’ll have to wait for confirmation.

Based on the appearance of the rear lens cap, this looks to be a quite compact lens. People seem to assume the in-built AF drive will bulk out the lens to a significant degree, but the fact that the smaller lens elements tend to be at the rear of the lens doesn’t necessarily support this, especially if a ring motor is used. I don’t know if the DC appellation could encompass a ring motor or not. Given that the focus throw of this lens is probably quite short and the elements not weighty, it may be that a more sophisticated and (presumably) costly ring motor isn’t justified. Even so, a conventional drive motor needn’t be large for this application.

This is the one I have been hoping for! I'm glad they gave me some time to save up for it.
