Who would be so silly that they would not present max aperture, while giving such information, like this out.
A non-disclosure-agreement by Ricoh could be an reason.

I guess, they guessed or let them self understand that this new Limited is f2.8, at DPR.
IMO they only saw what we saw, i.e. that video presentation.
f/2.8 was a mistake, they simply "copied" the aperture of the 16-50mm.
I really don't believe they would be told about the unknown to us max. aperture of a lens which will be released next year. What for? There's no benefit for Ricoh; DPR is not testing the lens, is not offering feedback on it, and won't communicate the info until Ricoh themselves will.

So don't worry, folks; a maximum aperture of e or a faster 3π/4 is still possible.

I was being ’funny’. But to be honest. Pentaxjust did show what they are working with now. Nothing more, nothing less.

If it would be up to me DPR would not get that(not sure if they will anyway)lens in their hands, regardless. Butwhat can you do. Nothing to worry at here. Just missed that ’sarcasm’ button there.

I'm a little ashamed that I was thinking the same thing...

pi/sqrt(2) gives about 2.2

I beg to differ. I have seen quite a bit of outdoor portraiture where the background is very well separated, especially with 24/1.4 lenses.

This one of mine is indoors of course, but if I had more faith in my FA*24 I would have preferred to shoot this wide open. The DFA21 Limited might be able to provide that confidence.

This one is wide open, but on a crop camera. On FF it would be almost half body, but I don't think that would be a problem.

And outdoors, getting some background blur is easy. Even at f/5.6 on a crop camera. I wish I had the K-1 that day - I reckon closer in and f/2.8 with a wider view of the background would have worked perfectly.

These two are wide open, and again, although I love them, getting closer with a full frame body would probably have made these better.

Sure. It just isn't a big selling feature either way to me. With weather sealing, say f2.4 or f2.8 aperture it feels like a landscape lens and a lens for taking portraits with the environment as a part of those photos. Nothing like the way the background will just melt away with the DFA *85 f1.4...

Now it's obvious why they introduced the electronically controlled aperture - they needed the extra precision. How else to differentiate f/1.4142... from a mundane f/1.4?

Indeed. No one would expect an ultra-wide to do that. The point I'm trying to make is that there is a lot more to bokeh quality that just obliterating the background.

(Ultra) wide tilt capable lens blows away surroundings just fine. Canon 17mm TS-E is very good for subject separation.

I'm sure this must have been said above somewhere if I could be bothered to look - the emphasis on bokeh in the clip at least hints at a reasonaby fast lens - maybe f/.2.3 or something equally eccentric
